Bottle from a trade a few years back Pours a deep opaque brown in my snifter at home. Aroma is sweet desert breads, honey, caramel, toffee, oak barrel. The taste is first of sweet desert breads (doughnuts?), toffee, vanilla, caramel, honey. Then the booze and barrel creep in on the finish. Thick, chewy. Full body. Great BW. Sampled at Lucky Lab Big Beer and Barleywine Festival. Poured dark amber with a thin white head and minimal lacing. Smelled of raisins, brown sugar, oak, vanilla, booze. Tasted of caramel, raisins, oak, vanilla, brown sugar and slight traces of booziness. Would love to do a side by side of this and the regular version, but they are both excellent. One of the best beers at this Fest. Tweety (377) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 9, 2010
Tap at Lucky Labrador Barleywine and Big Beer Festival. Just lovely, with a flavor profile very similar to the ordinary Doggie Claws with a balance that leans more towards sweet and malty than hops. boFNjackson (4201) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAR 9, 2010
UPDATED: FEB 24, 2013 Tap @ Barleywine & Big Beer Fest... Poured amber with a thin head. Very sweet, oaky, rich vanilla and big malts coming through for balance. Slight caramel, dark fruit (like raisins), brown sugar, honey, and a boozy, oaky finish. Not sure how long this beer spent in the bourbon barrels.
