On tap at the tasting room. Pours a dark, deep cherry red - pretty much indistinguishable from Cherry Adam. Pretty much no head, appears flat except for a small amount of bubbles at the top. Aroma is deep oak with some cherry and alcohol. I get bourbon out of this but it’s probably just the intense vanilla and wood as I don’t think this was in bourbon barrels. The cherries and oak in this have pretty much covered up the original Fred, making this seem extremely similar to Cherry Adam. Flavor is surprisingly drinkable, smooth even. Alcohol is hidden well. Wine-like fruitiness and complexity. I think I prefer the Cherry Adam at this point but this is still excellent if not completely different.
Keg @ HotD. Hazy deep red with a tiny head. Aroma has strong oak, rich cherry meat. A bit of marzipan and toffee. Hot, sweet and fruity flavor. Cherry toffee fruit leather. More oak. A bit of dry erase marker. Full bodied. Hot and oily. Ungstrup (37309) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - DEC 5, 2016

Tap. Slightly hazy amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma of cherries, dried fruit, peach, brown sugar, vanilla, wood and spicy notes. Sweet flavor that ends up dry with bitter notes. Medium bodied. oily texture and soft carbonation. A very nice Barley indeed. Blairgus (4536) - California, USA - OCT 5, 2016
5 Oct 2016, bottle. a bit dirty brown though with some sediment though i see steady bubbles on the edges. nose is cold, lightly charred oak, plums, some spices (cinnamon?), wood continually comes through, though alcohol is barely present. Med body and moderately fizzy. The original Fred is a great barley wine and it is obvious that that is the background here but the wood is really big. that might be due to the fact that the barrels are new so the wood exerts a larger influence. I like this, but i’d like to see the beer stand up to the wood a bit better. anders37 (26227) - Malmö, SWEDEN - SEP 17, 2016
