4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Intense... first one had to be chased down with glass of water. Another of my favorite brews.
Bought @ Drankhalle DeConick.
Rather brutal Barleywine. Smels very malty, still a lot of hop in the nose. Taste is straightforward, I expected more complexity. A tad too bitter. Nevertheless a very well made beer. BlazerT (1253) - Sosnowiec, POLAND - NOV 20, 2017
Nice sticky and heavy loaded with malts. Despite the ABV is well drinkable and head is this and stays for a long time. The bitterness is quite high. Nice as baseline brew. Scopey (15725) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 20, 2017
Bottle from Kenny's deep cellar - cheers! Consumed at L42. It pours hazy deep orange - brown with a small beige head. The aroma is soft, sweet, slick, oily, toasty grains, bit of umami, jammy fruits, toffee and cake. The taste is soft, bitter - sweet, oily, toffee, toasted nut, earthy, woody, touch of spice, stewed, tangy marmalade, sticky fruits and some alcohol warmth. Medium - full body and fine carbonation. Too sweet for my tastes, but I can see why others would like it. mR_fr0g (13511) - Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - NOV 16, 2017

September 2017 - Keg at Beavertown Extravaganza. As 'Hair of the Dog Fred'. One of the big wants of the fest, and was a little disappointed. Pours an amber orange, translucent, foamy off-white head leaves light lacing. Aroma is banana peel, apple, oaky, astringent-seeming, a bit harsh. Body is smooth with soft carbonation. Taste is boozy, spiced browned apple flesh, spicy, again a little harsh. (5-4-5-4-13=3.1)
November 2017 - Bottle share at One Canada Square. Big thanks to Kenny. This is 10%. Orange-brown, translucent, dense foamy off-white head leaves full lacing. Aroma has some orange zest and popcorn. Body is frothy with tingly carbonation. Taste is again toffee, slight orange notes, touch of papery oxidation. Slightly preferred the bottle version to keg, but neither really wowed. (6-4-6-3-14=3.3)
12oz brown bottle, aged about a year. Golden colour, pretty clear. Holds a thin layer of white foam. Nose - toffee malt, hops, fruit, alcohol. Taste - big toffee malts, sweetness and some mellow alcohol. Malty finish. Medium body. Quite nice. Vighals (4461) - Sørumsand, NORWAY - OCT 17, 2017

Bottle from batch 56:
Poured a nice medium gold with a huge head that remained throughout. The lacing is a virtual work of art.
The smell is a mix of fruit, hops, malt and vanilla....very complex and quite enjoyable to linger over.
The taste is not what I expected from the smell but is a sweet mix of malt and very bitter, grapefruit like tones from the hops. It has a very warming effect from the 10%abv but the taste actually hides the alc pretty darned well for me. A very good brew and I'd buy again without hesitation.
Well, I've had my first HOTD Fred since this review, batch 70, and I now notice how fruity this brew really is. Tons of orange, grapefruit, tropical fruit, big pine, yet the sweetness from some of the fruit does a nice job of semi balancing the citrus and the pine. I still think that this is the best HOTD brew and yeah, I'll buy some again. ;^) Btw, I've adjusted my review accordingly. Btw, P2, it pours a cloudy medium gold. ;^) wombat23 (1785) - Texas, USA - OCT 15, 2017
Shared 12 oz. bottle. Hazy orangish-gold, off-white head. Aroma of fruit cake. Taste is fruit cake, toffee, caramel, honey. Very rich. Warming finish. Nice!
