Taster pour on tap at the brewery pub (Portnald, OR). Pours a hazy copper amber hue, a roasted apple carmelized cor with livelyt bubbles, hazy darker middle and a touch more butterscotch glow on the edges. A frothy whitish head atop stays as a nice ringer, retains in that form and laces ok. Aromas are richer potent spirit barrels, earth and gentle peach nectar. Wet wood, warmth and gentle caramel meet some Belgian yeasty appeal, gentle estery fruit and more oak. Richer barrel presence with peachy tea like element behind and spice. Initial is firmer bodied, sweet and spicy, esatery fruit and banana, pear, spicy yeast meet caramel malts, potent barrel feel is tannic, vanilla and wet wood. Gentle peach, a bit of pitty life with firmer wood, earth and spicy Belgian yeasty appeal cutting through that potent vanilla and coconut appeal. Firmer spirit is warm but not unyielding, working well with the bigger base beer in the end. A bit of apple, gentle peach elements taper out with big vanillin appeal on the palate, woody and raw. This doesn’t end up hot but ends up very oak slanted, a bit punchy. An agressive beer in the end tempered by an agressive oak stance, gentle peach, more influence from the spicy and fruity Belgian yeast appeal beneath. Pretty pour and potent nose leads into a big beer but certainly a palateable experience with that distinct Hair of the Dog appeal. Good stuff. sjogro (4647) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - DEC 29, 2015
