COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Though our Kolsch is offered all year long on draft, we do feature it in 12oz. bottles as our Summer "Seasonal" beer. Hale’s version of this traditional German light ale won a Gold Medal at the Great American Beer Festival in 2010! It is similar to pilsner in flavor, light, subtle and thirst quenching. 5.1% ABV 10 IBUs Malts: Pilsner ~ Torrefied Wheat Hops: Saaz ~ Sterling Original Gravity: 12° Plato

12 oz can, gifted by lutton, and paired with football. Definitely an 11 am, a lot of football games to watch kind of beer. A light golden pour with tons of carb, rocky head. A clean, slightly floral, inviting grain aroma. Flavor is crisp, cool, simple to drink. Some fruitiness hiding in there. Refreshing. A nicely put together kolsch, with lots of right going for it.

Can bonused to me by luttonm - thanks! Keeping me company tonight while I grade (ugh). Clear gold pour. Aroma is combo of honey, biscuit, corn, and a hint of apple. Moderately sweet, minimal bitterness. Goes down easy, light body. Carbonation is a tad on the soft side. Overall: I know it’s getting on to fall, but this’d do just fine on those last few days that are still clinging to summer.

UPDATED: SEP 14, 2016 Can from Beers of Europe. Pours clear golden orange with a short-lived thin white head. Aromas of tinned green beans, light sugar. Taste is cereal grains, faint grassy astringency. Thin finish.

Can from Cotteridge Wines; clear yellow pour with a bubbly off white head, aroma has citrus and some grain, taste has grainy malts, vegetable stock and some lemon, hint of peach, not a good combo.

Rating #1994 2015.09.27 #CraftTakesSeattle Day 4, Beer 96 – Draught at taproom/brewpub. Pale straw coloured pour, bubbly white head, no lacing. Aroma is clean, lots of grassy, earthy notes. Medium carbonation, light body - nice clean mouthfeel - nothing astringent - and a vaguely present earthy bitterness that rounds this out well.

Can in Seattle. Thin foam, pale clear yellow. Eggy, sweet aroma, lots of tea-like malts. Pale, chunky malts, not crisp at all. Warm, creamy body. Not great.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a gold with a medium sized white head. Sweet fruity malt, crackers and soft grain. Medium bodied, softly sweet, more floral notes, gentle. Soft sweetness into the finish, more light floral biscuits. Very clean and easy drinking.

12oz can, I think relatively fresh, haven’t seen the cans before. Poured into a can shaped glass. What a surprising treat. Hale’s doesn’t usually impress but this. Aroma is malts but they aren’t husky, they aren’t cereal, they aren’t dusty, they aren’t sweet. Just a clean, fresh, airy pilsner aroma. This isn’t a "kolsch" but basically a pils. Similarly clean flavor, doesn’t pop as much as aroma but still very nice. I would definitely use a beer like this for mowing a lawn or floating down a Missouri river. Clear body, voluminous head.

Tap. Pours a clear pale straw yellow body with a fizzy white head that faded quickly. Very light nose, just a touch of fruitiness and bready malt. The flavor is pretty nice, soft doughy malt, decent hop bitterness, some lingering doughy malt. Light bodied with prickly fizzy carbonation, some doughy stickiness on the back end. Serviceable Kolsch, could use a hefty bump up in the hops department, but not bad.

Draft at Hale’s. Nice clear gold pour, small fluffy white head. Clean cereal grain / biscuit malt aroma. Taste has some honey sweetness. Easy drinking and refreshing.
