Delightful, nice palate and a great aromatic nose, decent bite and a quaffable beer to say the least. improvjock (328) - Seattle, Washington, USA - APR 7, 2008
Pours a dark brown with just a trace of head. The aroma was complex, and very malty. Was surprisingly not very bitter (a good thing in my book) and very smooth. A very good, drinkable beer, better than most Hale’s Ales I’ve tried. Bradrcr (806) - Renton, Washington, USA - JUN 16, 2007
On draught at the brewery. Judged as a dark Irish Red rather than an American or British Brown Ale. Aroma is toasted malt forward, caramel notes and very light hop flora. Appearance is a brownish red, dark, with a low off white/light tan head. Flavor is toasty, and has an almost tannic quality like a wine. It is lightly sour, with light hop flavor and bittering. Mouthfeel is med-light body, with low carb texture and some warmth. Overall it was pretty good, a little sour for my tastes, but very well made, and actually fairly easy to drink depite the sourness. Pleasant nuttiness, not too sweet, A LOT of diacetyl. Very round. Had it more body, would be a great beer. andrewje41 (4519) - Kenmore, Washington, USA - APR 9, 2015
Nitro draft pour featured at the brewery. Swirling amber color pour with the huge creamy head and lace. Aroma has light hops, and rich malt. Rich caramel malt flavor with a toasty finish. Interested in trying this on regular draft, but this nitro is very nice. Creamy, cinnamon like, spice finish. Nicely done.

Garnet/deep amber with a cream head that evaporates like a wave, this beer was surprisingly delectable--which shouldn't have been such a surprise coming from Hales. The aroma was pleasantly malty and nutty--quite similar to an irish ale. The flavor had an easy, musky malt profile with some nuttiness and resembled and amber ale. Excellently balanced, this vaults to one of my favorite brown ales. philbertk (1873) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAY 13, 2010

Taster at Hales. Soft copper colour. Partial head. Soft malt aroma. Moderate body with strong nutty flavours. Finish reminds me of peanut butter! My wife tasted it and discounted my peanut butter claim but could not place the unusual taste. BrotherBeer (13) - Colfax, Washington, USA - MAR 17, 2002
Amber color. The head started out nice then almost disappeared. Light body but nice cloudy/clear balance. Not much smell till after you have a drink. Then the aroma fills the nasal cavities. Not bad. Redhook makes a better Nut Brown ale.
