Rating #1998 2015.09.27 #CraftTakesSeattle Day 4, Beer 100 – Draught at taproom/brewpub. Pours a dark crimson/brown with a foamy tan head that dissipates slowly, medium-strong retention. Aroma is roasted malt, hint of coffee and chocolate. Taste is bold with noble, earthy hoppy bitterness, but has a strong caramel malty sweetness, hint of soft fruits in the finish. Well balanced, medium bodied ale.

On nitro tap at the brewery. Pours a clear brown with a medium sized white to tan head. Toast on the nose, softly nutty malt. Medium bodied, sweet, soft malt and grain. Crisp, softly bitter, a touch of crisp malt into the finish, lightly bitter.

Tap at Beveridge Place, Seattle. Colour is clear orange with small creamy white hear. Aromas and flavours: Fruits, dryness, some caramel, hints of hops and malts. Quite good session beer.

5oz at brewpub. Pretty nitro head from the nitro pour. Amber-copper clear beer. This tasted more like an English Pale than bitter to me. Aroma has hops present, despite the nitro. Nice English bright and clear minerally and earthy hops. Dusty, earthy malts below that. Low bitterness in both nose and flavor, which is nicely clean. Again, slightly dusty but clean malts with an apparent English hoppiness. Finishes clean. Soft nitro body. Good stuff.

The server warned us about this one. But we just had to have the sampler - and this was the price we paid for that decision. Almost colorless, almost flavorless, with subtle hints of metal and cardboard. No. 2.

Draught at Hales Ales Brewery and Pub, nitro
Hazy amber color with creamy nitro head. Almost no aroma. Light caramel flavor, dry mouthfeel, a bit of toasted nuts, ordinary bitterness, and some metallic aftertaste.
Stop nitro!

This has a pungent taste and aroma to it. Reddish pour. Vinegar taste. Gross. Had on draft at hales brewery in Seattle.

Nitro @ Hales... Poured dark reddish with a thick, floating, white head with constant retention. Super mild, very drinkable. Thin, soft mouthfeel. Some light doughy malt tones and just enough hops to balance the sweetness. Don’t expect much from this one, but when you need a session pint, it does the job.

UPDATED: JAN 4, 2013 Serving: from (nitro) tap at Hale’s Brewery & Pub. Aroma: lightly sweet. Appearance: average-sized, creamy, white, initial head with excellent lacing and fully lasting longevity. Clear, flat, amber body. Taste: acetic initial flavor and moderately bitter finish with short duration. Palate: light body, creamy texture and no carbonation. Overall: excellent. Look forward to drinking this beer again.
