COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
If a troll requests a pint of porter, you’d better have a good, big one to offer. Troll Porter fits that bill. Black, round and complex, with mocha and chocolate overtones and a fine hop profile. Very tasty brew. 6.6% ABV 31 IBUs Malts: 2-Row Pale ~ Crystal 75L & 120L ~ Munich ~ Special Roast ~ Chocolate ~ Carafa III ~ Torrefied Wheat Hops: Apollo ~ East Kent Goldings Original Gravity: 16.5° Plato

7/28/2007: Hale’s Troll Porter has a clear brown color. There is a frothy brown head on top and not much aroma. The flavor is dry and contains some roasted malt and hints of chocolate. However, the flavor really seems watered down despite the medium-light to medium body that is smooth on the palate. This is a very disappointing brew.

Sample from 22 fl. oz. bottle sent to me by bitbucket and shared at the "Columbus Tasting: Ate, now with gramatical errors" event. Thanks Bob! Rating #70 for this beer...

Another one of those thin and metallic tasting beers that I feel couldn’t help but be better off the tap. Maybe someday will get the chance to re-rate but I never want to see this in the bottle again.

Bomber. Sweet malty porter aroma on the nose with some roast in the background. Black body with tan head. Sweet malts thoughout beer with some roasted coffee and some caramel in the mix. Little dryness left on the palate. Good wind down beer for after work.

Draught @ the brewpub. Pours a black color with a tan head. Has a roasted malty aroma with some hints of chocolate. Roasted malty dark fruit and chocolate flavor. Roasted malty dark fruit finish with some hints of chocolate in the aftertaste.

Bottle, #403 Black pour with minimal head. Slightly roasted aroma with a bit of earthyness. Flavor follows with a hop bite. Decent porter.

Average, in nearly every sense of the word. I’ll give it a slight bump in flavor (which is, I guess, what counts the most) but nothing would make me want to purchase this again. The beer exhibits a sweet caramel nose, roasted malt flavor, and bitter chocolate finish. Inexpensive offering that I might come back to in a pinch.

Bottle: Near black pour with a very small brown head. Faint aroma of roastiness and coffee. Flavor is simple and straightforward. A blend of roast, chocolate, and coffee. Well balanced. A basic offering within the style, but well done. Probably will fly below the radar - it’s like a stealth bomber for the price of a mere fighter plane.

Courtesy of Acertain. The aroma is detergent-esque with sharp chocolate notes, lactose sugar and mild roast. The body is black and holds a thin tan head. Fore is roasty, with dark fruit and some very noticeable soapy/detergent notes. Nice mouthfeel, but on the whole not really feeling this one due to the off flavors.

Bomber from Bottle Trek. Dark brown/black color that shows orange glints at edges. Aroma is dark roasted malt with touches of berry and chocolate. Rather thin in body with very mild carbonation. Flavor is dark roasted malt and chocolate with some herbal hoppy bitter. Pretty good drink.
