3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark brown pour tap at HA. Thick white head. Mild coffee, nutty notes. Pretty good mild ale. Chocolate taste and smooth
On tap, poured into an 8oz glass. The aroma ia a roasty, warm, rich bakers chocolate that turns earthy early on. The aroma turns towards cooked nuts by the end of the drink. The beer is a dark, near opaque, oily mahogany with a light beige foam head that retains a light ring with a moderately light lace. The taste is a dry, medium light sweet and bitter, fairly balanced. The beer is thin, and kinda watery with a fuzzy carbonation and a medium light, roasted body. Flavors of bread and a hint of raisin come through up front, and it finishes with toast, nearly burnt, with a dry caramel and cooked nuts as it warms. The aftertaste is slightly sticky, and gritty cocoa and earthy blend with a hint of nuts. raoul_duke (270) - - MAR 28, 2015
Back with a striking white head. Really attractive to look at. This is excellent, a great alternative to a stout with good hop characteristics. rubbishystuff (2537) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 12, 2015
At the brewery. A rather good black ale. I guess it is considered an black IPA but maybe because there isn’t a standard black ale category. Not as hoppy as you might think. Basically a thin porter. but then it worked for me. Serving: Tap troyc (2869) - Illinois, USA - APR 9, 2014
[Growler] Pours a dark shade of brown with a sizeable light tan head. Toasty malts and nuts in the aroma. Taste is roasted and slightly burnt. Light coffee, toffee and charred wood. Thin mouthfeel and dry finish. Crisp hopping throughout. Tasting notes from 2/2014. Niko100 (2994) - Chicago, New York, USA - FEB 2, 2014

Alpenglo. On tap at the Half Acre taproom. Brown amber with a white head. Citrus bright hop aroma with dark fruits. Bitter roast with nuts and red fruit that?s juicy. Earthy juicy bitter. Kind of odd with the strongly roast but it works well enough. 7/3/8/4/15 Christpuncher (3251) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 7, 2013

A hell of a winter ale- my girlfriend said it had a portery flavor, but it was a bit thin for that. Despite, it was delicious and full bodied, with lots of caramel, malt, and roasted notes. A nice black ale with a solid backbone. I can’t wait to have this again.
