Imagine a comic book. The kind with superheroes and punching and stuff. Now imagine that most of those superheroes are kind of total jerks. Add in a lot of profanity. No, more profanity than that. Ok, now throw in felonious owls, spectral bovines, gorilla arms, lots of bears, unplanned pregnancy, and 19th century boxer John L. Sullivan. And then a little more profanity. And be sure to include almost nothing about theology or space exploration.

Now imagine—and this is key—being able to drink all that. And then imagine it’s called Beer Hates Astronauts, because that’s what we’re calling it. And we’re calling it that because it’s the beer version of God Hates Astronauts, which is the actual comic I completely failed to properly evoke above.

This is just the latest step in creator Ryan Browne’s attempt to dominate the world by means of one of the most unsummarizable comics in existence. Having recently Kickstarted the deluxe hardcover edition of God Hates Astronauts with massive success, he has joined forces with Half Acre for a groundbreaking venture in distributing comics in hoppy liquid form.

7% ABV India Pale Ale brewed with Vienna malt and Citra hops.

Can shared in London / big thanks to the Duke. Pours clear orange-gold with a small, creamy white head. The nose has some pale bread, a little husk, citrus rind, orange, faint pine. Medium sweet flavour with more pale read base, ripening citrus fruits, rindy and subtly fruity bitterness. Memory bodied with fine to average carbonation. Decent balance in the finish, with some orange, rindy bitterness, relaxed oune. Good. Solid.

Pint can courtesy of Motortoddhead. Pours a rusty orange with a medium off white head. Aroma of pineapple, mango, papaya and hops. Taste of tropical fruit listed above in the nose, hops and malt. Nicely balanced.

Clear light golden. White head. Huge sweet tropical fruit, mango nose. A small hint of pine and citrus. Pleasantly bitter, not very sweet at all. Chewy, somewhat dry, light body. Longer finish. Fair bit of carbonation. Absolutely one of the best IPA’s to ever be produced in Chicago. Incredibly well-balanced. Much of the character of a first class New England IPA without sacrificing the traits that make it a Chicago beer.

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2017 16oz can. Pours a semi-opaque/cloudy yellow-orange with a light white head dissipating to leave 4-5 mm of fairly sticky lacing. Aroma of light tropical fruit with a touch of piney hops; flavor is a little more on the piney side but not heavily resinous (with little malt character), some slight floral and earthy notes feature late on the palate. Despite a seemingly high visible level of carbonation the beer has an agreeable medium mouthfeel... not too spritzy or light. Finish is pretty long and leaves a bit of a woody impression. Quite good!

Pours golden orangish with a frothy white head. Aroma is of hops, pine, and tropical fruit. Taste is of bitter hops, with lots of tropical fruit. A good amount of mango, and even some apricot. Lingering taste of apricot. Nice hop bite to it as well. Has a bready malt backbone that balances the beer out very well. Mouthfeel is soapy, almost oily. Body is heavily carbonated and sticky. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
