Draft at the tap room. Golden-orange appearance with a white head. Fizzy mouthfeel, light bodied. Mild-hop and herb aroma. Abundantly spiced up with those peppercorns and other veggie-oriented flavors. Overall a fun, peppery, zesty beer with a very distinctive and slightly unusual taste that would probably pair up very nicely with comparably bold and complementary flavors. Draft at Half Acre. Pours an orangey gold with a persistent and sticky head. Nose is earthy. Faint citrus and a fruity pepper note. Grainy rice comes thorugh. Quite clean with a hint more fruit. On tasting, light heat is noted. Dry and earthy with some astringent character. Earthy and grain dominate overall here bringing an interesting element but overall it’s pretty middle of the road. Sampled on tap at the brewery (Chicago, IL). I’m told this is Next’s next beer for their Tokyo menu. This will not be bottled, tap only. Pours a rich golden hue, gentle haze, touch of golden orange glow. A frothy whitish head atop laces small. Aromas are gentle spice, crisp bready and cereal malts. Kiss of honey, grass, gentle spice and yeast. A bit sweet, touch of earth and fruit. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, offering rice, grain, and straw. Gentle dust, grassy hops. Kiss of spice and rice really makes a push In the middle, mellow rice malt sweetness mixes with gentle peppercorn spice, earth. Bready and cereal grains. A cool almost earthy mint quality into the backend. Grass, menthol, and a kiss of citrus. Grain, bread, touch of sticky quality. Finish is a touch of crispness, malt, gentle spice and peppercorn. Mellow sweetness, touch of heat. A fun experience, a bit sweet and bland up front, but wins me back into the backend with mellow rice, grainy malts, and a cool pepper and earthy herbal feel at times. Nifty. Aroma was lacking but the flavors and palate experience are kinda fun, different, very nice into backend and finish.
