Poured from a bomber into a cervoise goblet. Split with my cousin’s boyfriend who I’m starting to get into craft beer.
A: Pours a perfect amber with a nice fluffy white head. Recedes to a nice film across the whole top and leaves some splotchy lace down the whole glass.
S: Smells of sweet flowers and fruits. The hibiscus is present and there are some sugar qualities to it and just some other things going on that are hard to pick out. Still pleasant though.
T: There’s a lot going on. Slight honey with some other sweet sugars. Semi-sweet pomegranate with a little tartness as well. The hibiscus is there with that dusty sweet flower taste. That slight awkward taste must be the mangosteen. Definitely a big blend fruits, sugars and flowers.
M: Medium bodied with a clean sweetness on the finish. Nice carbonation.
O: There was a lot going on with the taste and it didn’t quite seem to click together. A decent beer for the style and I’m glad I got to try this.

From notes. First reviewed 1/12/2012. Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a tulip at Aviary.
The beer itself pours an orange amber color, mostly transparent with a slightly hazy center. A small but lively tightly wound white cap rests on top, fading to a thin film and leaving some generous lacing down the sides of the glass.
The aroma is fairly sweet, with light bready malts, a touch of honey, mangosteen, and hibiscus working to build an interesting nose. Behind the sweetness there is a bit of a fruity tartness, some wheat, and some floral notes.
The flavor follows the lead of the nose. It has been a while since I have had one, but mangosteen provides the most noticeable fruit flavor. Of the other named ingredients on the bottle, the hibiscus is fairly reserved, and I get pretty much no pomegranate flavor. Soft wheat provides a bready sweetness and moves the body from light toward medium. The rest of the mouthfeel works well with the flavor as well.
The carbonation is moderate and somewhat creamy, and despite a soft tartness in the middle, the finish is quite clean.
It was definitely fun to try a beer out with more unique ingredients, and even better to be able to try it in an atmosphere like Aviary. Horizon is light, creamy, sweet, and a bit tart, and I had no problem finishing the bottle. However, the flavor started to lose its novelty as the bottle continued on, leading to more middling scores. I would be intrigued to try it with the intended panang curry. Bomber from Pawola22 - thanks, Brian! Interesting to see that this is a somewhat polarizing beer. Count me as a fan. Nice deep and murky pour, just shy of blood orange. Medium, lasting head with nice retention. Nose is very interesting, with pomegranate quite strong initially and then followed by a sharp herbal note from the flowers and the whole suffused by a lovely tropical fruit current that complements the tartness quite well. Body is full and sometimes creamy, sometimes prickly. A touch of acetic quality on the tongue. Tastes are more or less as promised in the nose, a delicate and well realized blend of flavors. Bottle thanks to pawola22. Murky, orange/copper color with a small white head. Loads of lacing as the head fades. Slightly fruity aroma. Mango, orange, and fairly dusty. Just not a lot going on. Some caramel is present too. Taste is mostly wheat, caramel, but no real fruit character. Slightly dusty, and a slightly gritty mouthfeel. Not exactly bad, but this isn’t something I would need to drink again.

22oz bottle picked up at the brewery. Pours a cloudy, blood orange colored body with a finger-width, creamy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma has a good amount of soft florals and grainy wheats with a light sweetness. A touch of spice, hibiscus, a hint of tart fruits, a light bread, and some nice tropical fruits that come out more as this warms. Flavor is similar. Hibiscus and a touch of tart citrus up front before lots of soft florals and a very smooth, grainy wheat comes in. The spice comes in towards the end and helps wrap this up nicely with a light hopping that gives this a light bitterness. Finishes smooth and dry with some bready yeast, lots of florals, grainy wheats, a tropical fruitiness, and a pleasant, light spicing. Fairly lengthy aftertaste following a soft and smooth, medium body with a medium-light carbonation. Overall, a really nice, different type of beer from Half Acre. Very subtle, but well balanced throughout with a really nice wheat backing, soft florals, fruits, and a light spicing. Purchased at Half Acre in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on a random Thursday night with the house all to myself. Appearance a cloudy slightly reddish gold with a rich white head. Aroma is unique, very flowery, I associate it with a light hop backing, can get the hibiscus in the nose for sure, considering the food they made it for, it smells like it would go with it well. Taste is also very flowery, a little too flowery for my liking but it’s not bad. Definitely tropical and earthy, but also with the flavor it tastes slightly soapy. My hats off to them for trying it out, and I’m sure it goes well with the dish, but alone it’s OK. A: The beer pours a cloudy orange amber color with a finger of off-white head.
S: Nose isn’t all that bold/impressive. Slightly sweet with some straw aroma. A definite floral note to it and a faint tartness, perhaps the mangosteen or pomegranate. A light spice and yeast note as well.
T: The tartness is a bit more pronounced on the palate. A definite pomegranate flavor as well as a bit of apple. More bitter than expected, though. Some bread sweetness with a hint of spice, definitely some floral notes.
M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation.

Draft at Half Acre. I disagree with everyone, apparently, on this one. I really enjoyed this. Pours hazy gold with a thin layer of bubbles on top. Nose is quite nice. Lots of grainy wheat with some soft citrusy esters. Floral fruitiness comes through as well, a soft kefir type aromatic as well. On tasting, I get this beer. I see where it would go great with fermented sausage. There is a subtle tartness and a resounding wheat character that is pretty full and nice. The structure on this beer is really cool. Not my favorite beer in the world, but I think they nailed exactly what the target was. I was expecting a dull and flavorless beer, but this is anything but. Much more subtle than I’d expect from Half Acre, but it shows their range.
