bottle thanks to bu11zeye. deep chocolate brown with a cream head. light roasted malts, smoke, and chocolate on the nose. smooth on the palate, thick malt backbone, roastiness and a light smoky finish. HonkeyBra (4044) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - DEC 5, 2009
Dark brown pour with little head. Aroma of chocolate, light roasted malt. Flavor is chocolaty and bitter, a bit of coffee. Mouthfeel is a bit watery, but the flavor more than makes up for it. Nice carbonation. Good to see chicago breweries being awesome. JCB (3999) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JUN 5, 2010
22oz bottle from West Lakeview Liquors. Lively dark brown pour, like a root beer or something given how sprightly the carbonation was. Nose was nutty and vaguely chocolatey, more like a semi-roasty porter than the sharp notes I expect from a schwarz. Pleasant and somewhat slick mouthfeel tends to enhance the chocolately smoothness that seems to emerge in terms of flavor. Slight smokey and chalky dryness in the finish. Enjoyable beer, but didn’t really hit the mark qua schwarz for me. drewbeerme (3920) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 11, 2009
Bottle, pours reddish brown with off white head. Nose grainy, malty, flavor has mild roast and sweet biscuity notes. Clean finish, thin body. NobleSquirrel (3438) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 30, 2009
Draft at Half Acre. Pours a deep brown/black, fairly clarified. Nose is roasty and pretty clean with some nice herbal noble hops present. On taste, rich and roasty with a chocolate backing and noticable bitterness from hops, though not much hop flavor. Pretty decent Schwarzbier. Nice.

22oz bottle from west lakeview (old rating).... seen this on tap around town but picked up a bottle instead... pours a dark cola brown with a slowly forming thin ring of a frothy white head... aroma of german grains and malt, cola, in addition to flavors of sweet caramel, grain, light cocoa as well as some subtle roast on the backend. mildy sweet through the middle and finish with a prick of bitterness at the very end. carbonation falls in the middle of the road and the body is somewhat on the lighter side. pretty drinkable nonetheless. looking forward to more from these guys.

Bottle thanks to Bu11zeye. Pours a clear brown with beige head. Aroma of light dark roasted grain, faint malt and some toast. Flavor is the same. Mouth feel is light-medium body with high carbonation. Overall, pretty tasty! ilovedarkbeer (2741) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - MAR 29, 2010
Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Nose is chocolate chips, roasted pecans, and brown sugar. Taste is toasted marshmallow, creamy vanilla, and hazelnut oil. rubbishystuff (2538) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 30, 2010

Bomber shared by JCB. Cheers, Jason! Pours dark brown with generous off-white head. Not a whole lot schwartz-y about the aroma on this... or the taste for that matter. More like a dark lager or maybe a porter, but not even really that roasty. Where is the smoke or char?
