COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Latin name for hops is Humulus Lupulus, and when we decided to brew an ultra hoppy Double IPA to celebrate the brewerys anniversary, Humulus Ludicrous was born. Pale two-row, crystal and Munich malts form the firm malt base with thick, nutty flavours. We add a stupid amount of Centennial and Cascade hops during the brewing process and finish with running the sweet hot wort though a hopback (stuffed with more hops) on its way to the fermenting vessel. But, were not done yet! Three separate dryhop additions take place as we move the brew through to the aging tanks. The result is a beer with unrivalled grapefruit and orange rind aromas with a bittersweet malt finish. 100 IBU As seen in "Worlds Best Beers" Ben McFarland, and "1001 Beers You Must Taste Before You Die" by Adrian Tierney-Jones.

bottle from david paquet, shared also with tom10101 and minderbinder. many thanks! almost clear light amber, red hue, with a very nice off-white head, good retention and lacing. tons of fruity esters, leafiness, floralness, hint of resin, nice toasted malts, few dry caramel malts. average carbonation, medium body, very nice citrusy and herbal medium long finish. well balanced brew!

Bottle 650ml. Pours copper with low off-white head. High lacing. Aroma is of citrus, tropical fruits, malt. Taste is of citrus, tropical fruits, malt, pine? Bitter finish. Palate: Body is medium-high. Overall: Very good. A tad too bitter for me, but very good otherwise.

Bottle (22 oz). Thanks David for sharing this one! Clear dark amber with a medium off-white head and good lacing. Aroma of malt/caramel with lots of citrus and pine hops. Taste is also of malt/caramel and hops (mostly resinous). Sweet and bitter finish. Mouthfeel is creamy and oily. Im not usually a big fan of these malty DIPA but this one is quite good. Theres good balance between malt and hops and its still drinkable despite the heavy body for this type of beer.

Clear reddish pour with a 2 finger white head. Straight pine hops in the aroma. Pleasantly hoppy. Sweet balance, not just a hop bomb. Very enjoyable IPA. Lacing is epic. 090412

Sampled at the GCBF. Amber, spiderwebs. Aroma of mango, tangerine, apricot. Taste is bitter, yes, but the crystal comes out mightily. A well crafted DIPA... Id heard this was overhopped but its not too bitter at all, its "well balanced" (which is almost absurd to say for this most extreme of styles) with the malt base.

Pint at St. Augustine's. Clear amber. Fruity malt aroma. Fruity hop bitterness. Nice. Don't expect a punch of either. Well balanced though.

Pours a pretty amber with off white head and nice lacing. Citrus, pine, mango and soap in the aromas. Some initial fruit flavour, and some caramel maltiness..but its mostly a bracing bitterness that has you think youre eating pine needles. Long lasting sappy bitterness that stays on the palate. Delicious!

UPDATED: MAY 3, 2013 650ml bottle (absolutely love this size; dont have to feel guilty about having "just one beer") Found this seasonal brew hiding deep within the confines of my beer fridge; not sure how it went unnoticed. Nice deep amber colour. Beautiful hop aroma. Thick white head lasts with nice lacing. Thick with Excellent malty feel and hop flavour that lingers. This is fantastic!
