The Latin name for hops is Humulus Lupulus, and when we decided to brew an ultra hoppy Double IPA to celebrate the brewerys anniversary, Humulus Ludicrous was born. Pale two-row, crystal and Munich malts form the firm malt base with thick, nutty flavours. We add a stupid amount of Centennial and Cascade hops during the brewing process and finish with running the sweet hot wort though a hopback (stuffed with more hops) on its way to the fermenting vessel. But, were not done yet! Three separate dryhop additions take place as we move the brew through to the aging tanks. The result is a beer with unrivalled grapefruit and orange rind aromas with a bittersweet malt finish. 100 IBU As seen in "Worlds Best Beers" Ben McFarland, and "1001 Beers You Must Taste Before You Die" by Adrian Tierney-Jones.

Bottle courtesy of Dany. Pours a deep dark ruby amber with a huge beige head. Some faint cool citrus and a touch of raisin, spicy and malty, a touch of oxidization. Medium bodied, malty and a touch of oxidization and warm alcohol. A bit of papery age, but still not too bad. Warm alcohol on the finish with some lingering grapefruit bitterness. Hoppy enough that even with the apparent age, its still drinkable.

Dark amber color, big caramel malty backbone with some citrus hops. Well balanced sweet malty mouth with a huge caramel malty whack and then a moderate bitter finish.

12 oz bottle courtesy of savvy1982. Thanks. Pours a hazy copper color with a small off-white head that has fair retention. The aroma is soft with mild citrus, toffee and some pine. The flavor is a bit oxidated with barley wine, almonds, sherry, biter pine and caramel. The palate is smooth and full with lively carbonation. Finishes long with lingering biters. Overall: Ill bet that this is a lot better fresh, but still it was quite tasty.

Beautiful color, a red-tinged orange. Hops come through in the aroma and big time in the taste. Mouthfeel is good, and finishes with slight bitter aftertaste.

wow! big head, nice reddish hue. i would have given it full marks for colour but I had a piles o bird droppings in the bottom o my glass. Ive seen sediment and Ive seen hops put in beers before but this was a bit excessive...not that I minded that much. Actually had a chunk and it was a bit crunchy. Anyways, Big brew! extremely fruity. peaches and apricots on the nose as well as pine cones, pineapple. This is a full bodied brew with tons of hops but is balanced by some malts . When an IPA is done right(like this one) there is nothing finer on the market for me.

341ml bottle. bright orange/copper with a pillowy beige/orangish head, good lace and some funky weird solid chunks of sediment. Absolutely loaded with fruit on the nose. Pineapple, apricot, melon with a nice caramel undercurrent and a little graininess. A big melon sweet entry with more of that brown sugar and caramel feel and a citrusy finish that lasts damn near forever.
