UPDATED: FEB 14, 2016 2016 batch: Wow, this is even better than the first batch, which already was fantastic. The bourbon, the richness. Everything is perfect on this beer. 2013 batch: Bottle shared with northropfrye. Aroma of butterscotch, bourbon. Black body with a pale caramel head. Taste is coffee, chocolate. This is very tasty. blackmetal (236) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - NOV 9, 2015
Really solid beer. Has wonderful chocolate/coffee taste with some fruit and whisky notes. Savvy1982 (1706) - Lethbridge, Alberta, CANADA - MAR 28, 2013
Well, I gave up my usual trip to Winnipeg to go to Pliny the Younger Day, and DAMMIT DAVE WHY DID YOU MAKE ME REGRET THAT!?!?!?!?! Seriously - Vinnie Cilurzo came and sat with us, picked up our tab, and hung out for two hours, AND YOU CAME OUT WITH THE BEST BEER YOU’VE EVER MADE. Honestly, this is better than Bourbn County - there is more cocoa power, more coffee, and a prettier bourbon note - I really, really love this. In ten years I’ll have to have this side-by-side with batch #1 & #2 $ellout... Pours black, viscous, and lovely - thin dark tan head - decent lacing. Nose is wonderfully bourbony - vanilla, coconut, mocha, biscuits, Ritz crackers, really the perfect amount of bourbon... Flavours are surprisingly well integrated and delicate - French vanilla, bourbon, toast, marmite, big mocha, seriously sticky milk chocolate... Dear Jesus I really love this. Absolutely world class! Une bière à l’onctuosité décadente et avec le profil des saveurs apparenté à la bcbs. Chocolat au lait, café noir, vanille, coco, bourbon, tanins dociles, un véritable lait frappé. DuffMan (10429) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 23, 2013
Bottle. This is my third or fourth time having this, and I think it is time I rate it. Hearty near-black pour with a finely bubbled brown head that is slow to form but enduring. Aroma shows prominent bourbon barrel traits married to dense roast and chocolate notes. The palate is rich and silky, featuring sweet notes of toasted marshmallow, vanilla, coconut, treacle, some fudgey chocolate, hard roast. Very soft and rounded, not at all harsh. Also incredibly balanced, with the bourbon character in perfect marriage to the stout, complimenting one another and each elevating the other. Sublime.

Amazing beer huge bourbon and oak aroma and taste. Dark pour dark brown head. Great beer. Kpbutsko (23) - - SEP 22, 2013
Epic. Pored black with a mahogany/red/brown head. Velvety feel with a dark chocolate taste. Higher in alcohol, for sure.. The bourbon definitely makes itself know in the aftertaste. Very smooth.

Let me stvv lbbbbnm bbnart with the minus. The downside is that the taste doenst last very long. Great parts are the awesome smell and the great taste, a kind of mix between bourbon county and Black thuesday. The mouthfeel is good but not outstandig, dominating alcohol, sweetness, cocos, and carbonation. northropfrye (3601) - Steinbach, Manitoba, CANADA - FEB 16, 2013
UPDATED: FEB 14, 2016 2016 batch: Dark brown body, brown head. Poured in Half Pints snifter. Marvelous sweet malty, bourbon aroma. I would say this is fairly similar to the 2013 batch, maybe a touch hotter on the back of the throat. Quite fantastic once again. No change in scores. 2013 batch: I could easily see this joining the top 50 in Canada list. Half Pints has created a near masterpiece here. Wonderful sweet bourbon, dark chocolate, tomato, bready, malty nose. Taste is bourbon, dark chocolate, with a finish of coffee. I appreciate the fact that this isn’t too sweet. It’s well balanced, unlike a few imp stouts that I’ve found too intensely sweet. This is not. And the abv is amazingly well masked. No booziness at all. A great beverage. Well done. eric_victor (57) - Manitoba, CANADA - FEB 18, 2013
Pours jet black with beautiful viscosity. Thick head with coppery swirls throughout with great lacing. Nice bourbon aroma which doesn’t overpower in the mouth. Another great strong beer from Half Pints.
