From a can. Pours copper-amber with significant head and lace. Aroma of rich malts. Medium carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of caramel malts, grains, amber malt, slight bitterness. Overall rich and flavorful but not the tangling grain bite I often find in red ales, nor any wild yeast esters, herbal or wheat flavor I might expect in a farmhouse. This is more of an amber ale than a farmhouse. There isn’t much funk, but its a well balanced ale dominated by the malts which give it a nutty, caramel flavor. onceblind (10692) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JUN 1, 2013
@ South Denver Beer Fest 2013. Clear brilliant amber, no head. Very little aroma of barn funky crystal malts and earthy hops. Flavor is initially earthy and biter, with a touch of earthy light caramel to follow. Pretty ’meh’ rharrist (1) - Colorado, USA - FEB 15, 2013 does not count
I have to say it’s delicious! I think it’s the best tasting beer I’ve ever had.
It’s very smooth and seems maybe a little sweet, which offsets the alcohol. Absolutely delicious!
At 52 years old, I’m not new to beer. I had my first Schlitz in 1972.
My wife, who doesn’t like beer very much, agrees with me.
