Pint at Hobgoblin in Reading. Dark as night with little head. Mild porter aroma, nice but takes a bit of getting used to. Easy to taste but a bit watery. Has the usual slight porter coffee chocolate aftertaste. Its a reasonable but ultimately average porter.

Cask at Prince of Wales, Farnborough. Light malt aroma. Oil slick black, more cola like in the light. Crescent moon of a beige head. Slightly sour with a wide sweet streak. Sugar, treacle, berries, but all understated. Medium bodied, if somewhat watery. Softness. Short finish. Easy drinking. Didnt really get any bitterness. An overly polite porter.

Cask at The Claret. It pours dark ruby with a small beige. The aroma is toasty, roasted malt, wood, cardboard, rye bread, cocoa and cake. The taste bitter, roasted malt, charred wood, liquorice, treacle, fruit cake, cocoa and coffee with a dry, toasty finish. MediuM body and soft carbonation. Decent porter.

Black beer with a thick beige head. Tastes and smells of bitter, earthy malt with some coffee and dark chocolate and the flavour has a splash of tart, zingy fruit as well to make an interesting combination
