One of the better Pale Lagers I have tasted. Better aftertaste than other more commercial lagers.

popephred (270) - Plainfield, Illinois, USA - NOV 7, 2017
UPDATED: NOV 7, 2017 poured from the can into my trusty Samuel Adams glass. The pour produced a pale yellow body, like a good Malört, combined with a full, frothy head of white foam. The aroma was skunky, with a hint of detergent. As expected, the body was very thin, and had a tinny taste throughout, lingering long after the tasting.

Can poured at GABF 2017 with Paul and Andrew. Pours a clear golden body with big airy white head. Nose is grains and corn. Mouthfeel is thin bodied, crisp - nothing too offensive going on.

If youre looking for a nice cheap beer to get you through to the next day, look no further. Hamms, a beer crafted by our fine american unions is the patriotic brew for you. This beer isnt going to pour like your 5 dollar sam adams, nor is it going to taste like your german lager. But it isnt going to taste like that busch piss, or aluminum coors. This beer has a very sweet corny flavor. Light on the aluminum, and super light on the hops. Definitely not for you ipa guys, but this beer will fit the need for most of those with the wisconsin bloodline. A cheap beer, one that doesnt even put a dent in the ol pocketbook. This will treat a whole house of guests, with one easy payment of 19.98. so stop bashing this fine milwaukee beer, shes been around for quite some time now. Proving itself over and over.

From May 2007 This pours from 12oz can a light gold with a smallish head of foam that doesn't hang around very long and there's just a wee bit of lacing. The smell is very strongly of corn and sweet malt. The taste on first sip is all sweet malt and corn. A few more sips in and there's some citrusy hops, mostly lemon, in the background that is most noticeable near and through the finish but I can't say it does a good enough job to save this beer from a short and less than stellar review from yours truly.

Appearance: Pours an absolutely clear, very delicate yellow body with a steadily receding, head of white, wholesome suds. Light lacing. Smell: The faint aroma carries with it the merest hints of sweet-smelling grain. Taste: Sweetish, cereal maltiness with what seems like touches of rice and corn. Not entirely without a little flourish of hops and bitterness, albeit low. Finishes drying and nicely crisp, clean. Mouthfeel: Thin-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation, giving it a nice bit of zip to it. Overall: Huh. You know, it wasn't at all what I thought it'd be (i.e., BLEAGH). In fact, it's not all that bad, particularly for the price.

The problem with folks rating AALs like this is they want to compare it to more flavorful thicker lagers, and therefore rate these types of beers low because they're 'weak' & 'watery'. It's not fair. This beer, for its price, wins out hands down against any of the popular AALs in its class, like Pabst, High Life, Bud, etc. Hamm's is refreshing, perfect carbonation level, sweetness and hops balanced well, and all in all a good beer for what it is. Is it a trailer park beer? Perhaps. Is it the best tasting of the cheap beers? Absolutely. But it gets my vote and ends up in my shopping cart when I'm looking for my daily drinkers and don't feel like shelling out $10+ for a sixer of a good local microbrew.

Pours clear yellow with a lasting head and lots of visual carbonation in the form of tiny bubbles. Light malt, corn and rice aroma. Light body with an above average hop bitterness for this macro. Much better than the 3 other major macros. Makes a decent session beer. Finishes dry. Better than expected.

UPDATED: SEP 9, 2017 I'm old school and love this beer. The fact that it has been brewed since 1865 should say something. I raise a glass to all those who came before who thought that this beer did the job.

Draft at the High life lounge. Pours piss yellow with a thin white head. Doesn't leave much lacing. A slight caramel malt note on the nose. Tastes of corn when it tastes of anything at all. Finished crisp and clean. Not as crap as I thought it would be.
