Here’s the Syuzan Kaido Kölsch 5%
One of the things these guys did which was a bit different were they had pull top bottle caps - no bottle openers necessary.
Pouring a deep gold with a fast dissipating off-white head of foam. The aroma is buttery diacetyl. The taste is crisp light malts & butterscotch with a sharp hoppy bite.
I am not sure how appropriate diacetyl is in a Kölsch but this seems a bit much. Interestingly enough the diacetyl fades and crisp malts + hops start to shine. Somewhat below average. Get rid of that diacetyl and it’d be pretty good. I’ve had it on tap and in bottles in much better form than this. willisread (3293) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - MAR 30, 2015
On tap at CBM Jimbocho. Hazy golden yellow with a small off-white head. Fruity aromas on the nose with malt and a hint of grass. Medium body with nice carbonation. Taste is fruity and sweet. Faintly bitter finish. Not bad at all. maekchu (3847) - Hirakata, JAPAN - FEB 1, 2014
Bottle from Dai Maru Kyoto basement liquor shop. Thin sweetish buttery nose. Sad hazy dirty light yellow color. Mild sweet malt / light hopping comes up on the carbonation / finish has a tiny spot of bitterness and again the butter note. Thin body. Poorly-made stuff. Not usually a huge fan of this kind of beer, but this one ticked all the boxes. Drunk straight from it bottle it was mildly carbonated but not flat-tasting, with good strong hop flavours on a solid base. Good stuff from the best Ji-beer brewer in Kyoto.

Bottle brought back from Japan and shared by Keir- thanks again, Keir! Pours a cloudy gold color with a small white head. The aroma is really gritty earth, almost dirt-like, with grass, husky grains, and pale malts. The flavor starts earthy, transitions into some musty grains, and finishes really big and malty. Light-bodied, with a malty, dry, gritty mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Very unusual kolsch. worldbeertaste (1805) - West Midlands, ENGLAND - JUL 24, 2011
UPDATED: AUG 5, 2012 Cloudy golden with a white creamy deminishing head. Smells of citrus and banana, ginger, butter and summer fruit. Medium body with lively carbonation. Sweet fruity taste of banana, wheat and cloves, butter, with a pale hoppy grass light bitter finish. Smooth and lemony - Light and very enjoyable. Refreshing.

Bottle. Old rating found with my Japan trip notes. Poured a slightly cloudy gold. A big nose of juicy malt and tropical fruit. Creamy palate with a fruity flavour. Perhaps a little lollie-ish though.
