Pours white lace, amber/copper. Nose is of fruity esters reminiscent of Belgians ales, whisky barrel wooden notes, liquorice, spices. Taste is liquorice, boozy. Caramel, lingering spiciness. Interesting beer, rather unique complexity. wchesser (2122) - Denver, Colorado, USA - OCT 13, 2013
GABF 2013. Deep brown, well carbonated. Caramel and bready malt heavy nose. Full bodied, some fruit and bread. Didn’t get oak, whiskey, or any of the Pugachev’s coming out. LtDan (1806) - Los Angeles County, California, USA - JUL 7, 2013

On tap. Medium brown with a fizzy off white head. Malty cereal grain, toffee, and molasses aroma. Medium bodied palate. Tastes of sweet cereal grain, molasses, and toffee with some tannins from the oak showing through on the finish. joeneugs (6371) - Livermore, California, USA - FEB 16, 2013
On draft at the Livermore Saloon. It pours a dark brownish red color with a khaki head. The aroma is a good balance of toasted malt with some cherry and dry notes of wood. The flavor has toasty malt with just a hint of roasted malt, cherry, earth and spicy wood in the finish. Very well balanced and warming. It was a delight. On tap at the Barrel Party. Pours with a hazed brown hued body with a retentive tan head. Aromas are of brown sugar, oak, sweet malt, melanoidins, pencil shavings. A bit raw. Clean ester wise. Flavors are of currants, earthy, brown sugar, clean, molasses, lightly bready, barrel, melanoidins. Lots of oak. Warming, medium carbonation. beersearcher (2382) - Glendale, California, USA - DEC 9, 2012
My co-favorite at the 2012 Barrel Aged Beer Event. Lovely milk chocolate taste in this medium nut brown colored barrel beer. More "alt-y" than Pugachev and easy to sip. Getbetter (1033) - East Palo Alto, California, USA - NOV 11, 2012
