thanks to Tim for the hookup on this, and in the new 4th Ann glass to boot. You rock! Pours dark brown with a huge light tan head that leaves a nice lacing the length of the glass. Aroma is really nice and have tremendous depth. Big toast and nutty malts, the rye whiskey is apparent but finessed well as it only complements. Flavor is extremely rich, caramel and light roast notes blend with nutty character and big wood in the finish. This is awesome stuff, and one of my favorites from this brewery. Aroma: Roasted and toasted malt. Chocolate and fresh hops.
Taste: Toasted chocolate like malt, dark chocolate.Mild spicy hops.Black forest cake. Slight barrel.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied active carbonation.
Overall: One of the best beers H24 has ever made, looking forward to the 100% barrel aged version.
Pours white lace, amber/copper. Nose is of fruity esters reminiscent of Belgians ales, whisky barrel wooden notes, liquorice, spices. Taste is liquorice, boozy. Caramel, lingering spiciness. Interesting beer, rather unique complexity. joeneugs (6371) - Livermore, California, USA - FEB 16, 2013
On draft at the Livermore Saloon. It pours a dark brownish red color with a khaki head. The aroma is a good balance of toasted malt with some cherry and dry notes of wood. The flavor has toasty malt with just a hint of roasted malt, cherry, earth and spicy wood in the finish. Very well balanced and warming. It was a delight. 1st rating from tap at Hangar. Dark pour with reddish tint and a chestnut head. Taste is dark toasted rye bread and biscuits with a hint of some barrel roll in there. Almost like a sessionable barrel roll. Nicely done.

My co-favorite at the 2012 Barrel Aged Beer Event. Lovely milk chocolate taste in this medium nut brown colored barrel beer. More "alt-y" than Pugachev and easy to sip. dukeredhair (243) - California, USA - SEP 24, 2012
App: pours reddish brown with beige head that sticks around. aroma of brown sugar, hint of molasses, caramel. Taste is sweet with no bitterness. Palate is thick, sticky and chewy. Seems like it is probably a great beer for what it is but it isn’t what i’m looking for. Too Sweet. Really really sweet. BMan1113VR (7931) - Los Angeles, California, USA - DEC 22, 2012
On tap at the Barrel Party. Pours with a hazed brown hued body with a retentive tan head. Aromas are of brown sugar, oak, sweet malt, melanoidins, pencil shavings. A bit raw. Clean ester wise. Flavors are of currants, earthy, brown sugar, clean, molasses, lightly bready, barrel, melanoidins. Lots of oak. Warming, medium carbonation.
