What a pleasant surprise - barrel influence is there in this blonde ale, but seems light in comparison to other barrel roll beers. Fruity aroma and flavor with moderate undertones of vanilla and oak, and just a touch of yeast. Smooth and tasty.
The buttered popcorn Fallen Leag has been the only beer in this series that was less than very good. DSG (14685) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - MAR 15, 2015
[2/12/15] Draught at The Sycamore in San Francisco. Hazy golden. Spicy and fruity Belgian Ale aroma with some wood, vanilla and bourbon. Sweet flavor, fruity and boozy, with some wood and vanilla. Medium-bodied. Too boozy. DesertDevil (699) - Arizona, USA - MAR 6, 2015
Draft at Whole Foods Market – Chandler. A lot of light fruit esters (pear, apple, green grapes) highlight the nose along with white oak, a decent amount of alcohol heat, and a touch of caramel. Cloudy caramel color with hints of orange and a brief filmy white head. White grapes and pear bite first on the taste with some white pepper, a floral tone, and (as the beer warms), a faint banana flavor, with a solid caramel backbone. The booze is readily apparent but doesn’t provide any distinctly bourbon flavor. Good carbonation creates a lively mouthfeel. A decent beer, but I prefer several of the other Barrel Roll brews. beerguy101 (5360) - Newark, California, USA - JAN 2, 2015
Tasted at the 8th Annual Bistro Barrel Aged Beer Fest on Nov 9, 2013. This Belgian Strong Ale pours a medium orange gold color from the tap. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity, sweet, banana and bourbon. A medium bodied Belgian Strong Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, bananas and bourbon. The hops are floral. Nice carbonation. Nice bourbon and wood flavors. Very smooth taste, nicely balanced. Good sipping beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. Good color and aroma. Poured with a big 2 finger head, but dissipitated fairly quickly. Taste is above average but not the best trappist. Overall very drinkable and respectible ale

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours light amber with a white head. Treacle aroma. Med + body. Flavor is bourbon/vanilla and treacle. Brown sugar. Finishing on the sweet side, but not very. Not bitter. Moderate bourbon/treacle finish. Seems to have aged long enough to smooth down the bourbon. Very tasty. joeneugs (6371) - Livermore, California, USA - APR 5, 2014
On draft at the Albany Taproom. It pours a very cloudy burnt orange color with an off white head. The aroma is butterscotch, vanilla, apricots and golden raisins. The flavor has a huge bourbon, vanilla and wood influence with some caramel, tart apricot and butterscotch. The finish is overpowering with lots of alcohol and vanilla. Not terrible, but probably not something I’d order again.
