Pugachev Royale is a more developed version of Cobra. We added cacao nibs and vanilla beans to a select few barrels of Pugachevs Cobra during its eight months in Bourbon Barrels, then transferred it to brandy barrels for an additional 10 months of aging. Royale displays sweet, ripe fruit notes doused with incredible chocolate aromatics. This is a truly decadent beer to be saved for a special occasion, and will evolve in the cellar for years to come. Approximately 400 hand-numbered 11.2 oz bottles will be available in the Tasting Room only. Purchases of Royale will be limited to one per guest.
2013: 14.8% ABV

September 18, 2015. Bottle, 2014 vintage, received in a trade, thanks!
Black with a small slightly frothy brown head. Aroma is intense malty and holds lots of barrel notes with bourbon, brandy, dried fruits, caramel, vanilla, charred oak, dark chocolate, roasted coffee and warming alcohol. Taste is mediums sweet, bitter roasted and slight boozy. Finish is a bit salty bitter with roasted notes, dark chocolate, roasted coffee, sweet caramel, vanilla, some dried fruits and port wine notes and warming brandy and bourbon. Full bodied, soft carbonation, oily creamy texture with a quite dry finish.
Very nice intense BA stout, a bit dry finish, could have don with a slightly creamier and rounder ending.

Thanks Owen for sharing This is the 16.3% baby cobra Dark cola color, not much for head. A few gurgles out of this but not much more. LOTS of AVB lacing. Thick and sticky on the sides of the glass. Nose is waves of bourbon, waves of brandy, dark fruit, coco nibs, oak and booze. Liked how the waves kept changing. taste is a lot like the nose. Sticky and sweet, wave after wave of ever changing barrel components. First Bourbon, then brandy. Lots of dark fruit. That was pretty consistent. Slow sipper. big feel and big ABV bite in the end. Very nice High AVB beer.

At James for his 12k tasting. Pours a deep black with a thin tan head. Soy sauce, roast, cocoa, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, warm alcohol. Medium-bodied, soy sauce, umami, roast, wood. Warming alcohol on the finish, caramel and bourbon, more soy sauce.

YUM. This was nice, I normally dont go for the very strong ones but this one is a great balance of intense barrel contribution and base beer. Lots of bourbon barrel flavors and roasty base.

2015 bottle to glass. Pours a thick deep black color with a light brown head. Extremely hot, but wonderfully thick and fudgy. Excellent beer, but I can only imagine what some age would do to this. Thanks Jerome!

Poured from a 2015 bottle. Aroma is rich with lots of chocolate as well as some dark fruit notes with plum, prune and raisin. Some medium light brandy and bourbon notes with hints of oak. Light vanilla and roast notes. Pours black with a small, medium thin, dark mocha head that recedes quickly and disappears. No lacing and fairly long legs. Flavor is moderately sweet with quite a bit of chocolate and some slightly lighter roast notes. Moderate alcohol heat with some bourbon and brandy notes. Light vanilla notes with some faint oak. Medium light bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium low carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright beer but it lacks any vanilla character or even chocolate for that matter. Flavor and aroma is dominated by the barrel character. Its a good beer, but its hot and the adjuncts dont show through at all really.

Bottle courtesy of Hackobock. Pours black with a small mocha head leaving both some sparse trace and prominent legs on the glass. Smell is intense, malty, fruity and boozy with roasted malts, caramel, toffee, butterscotch hard candy, vanilla fudge, charred wood, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, roasted nuts, raisins in rum, dried cherries, moist soil and bourbon alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, salty, malty, fruity and boozy. Mouthfeel is fat, oily, viscous, round, boozy and full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with roasted malts, burnt caramel, vanilla fudge, charred wood, roasted coconut, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, ammonium chloride, raisins in rum, fruity slightly dry sherry, minerals and brandy/bourbon alcohol. Compared to the regular version this almost feels dry. Reminds me of a complex sherry. More sophisticated than the original but also more challenging requiring more time and consideration to appreciate. Tasty but I think I prefer the simpler decadent original.

Bottle at VT campground session. Pours black with a light brown head. Light lacing. Smell and taste of rich bourbon, dark chocolate, dark malt, licorice, brown sugar, and misc dark fruits. Not overly hot at 14% somehow. Layered with flavors, maybe a little too sweet but what do you expect with this style and the ingredients. Body is medium to full with light carb. Very nice.

12 oz bottle. 575/1209. Light spirit. Brandy flavor without the Brandy boozy. Oaky. Woodsy. Very smooth, especially for the claimed 14.8%. Full body although the carbonation seemed a bit light.
