Dusseldorf altbier style, although not a very good one. Color and aroma is right, but taste and palate are weak and watery.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2017 On tap. Midsized head, hazy brown colour. Aromas of leaves, floral hops, caramel, toffee, light dried fruits. Taste is leavy, earthy with some malt. Fizzy carbonation, slick texture, light to medium body.

I remember this beer for it’s deep nutty taste, dark in color, full bodied and extremely easy to drink. I have not had a Hannen Alt since 1969 when I spent Christmas, my 23rd birthday and New Years in Essen, Germany with the Krimphoff family. This was my beer; I wish I had a case!

Bosskie (900) - NETHERLANDS - MAY 16, 2017
Beautiful warm ruby colour, white bubbly head and some bubbles. Smell is malt and caramel, some white pepper, cumin, hint of fenugreek, nutmeg. Touch of yoghurt and citrus. Taste is fizzy, bitter sweetish and quite full with a gentle fizz. Malty, hint of chocolate and spicy bitterness. Touch of chlorine.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 7B). Bottle 33 cl - Batch LB244 (BBF 06.06.17). AROMA: medium-low cardboard-like notes, mixed with medium-low caramelized malt notes with bread crust. faint peppery hop presence. APPEARANCE: ambar color and clear. medium-low white head with medium-low retention. TASTE: medium-low cardboard notes followed by caramelized malt (bread crust). medium-low balanced bitterness, with a semi-dry to dry finish. PALATE: medium-low body with medium-low carbonation. OVERALL: an altbier with notes of oxidation and with more muted malt.

Idiosynkrasie (7604) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - FEB 28, 2017
500ml bottle. Clear, chestnut colour with average, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Slightly grainy, toasty, malty aroma, a touch of spelt, surpressed hints of malt lozenge and caramel. Taste is toasty dark malty, a touch of roast, caramel and malt lozenge, bitter hoppy counterpart; minimally creamy palate.

Grumbo (3091) - Ipswich, Suffolk, ENGLAND - FEB 25, 2017
Bottle from Beers of Europe, Kings Lynn. Pours slightly hazy deep chestnut brown with a short lasting off white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, hop, dark fruit and light chocolate. Medium sweetness, light bitterness. Medium body, slight sticky texture, soft carbonation. Finish is sweet, and malty. Certainly had worst bottled Altbiers.

fdomig (1025) - München, GERMANY - JAN 21, 2017
500ml bottle at home in Munich. Aroma is malt, roasted coffee, nuts. Appearance is dark brown with a brown-ish foam. Taste is bitter and very light sweet. Slightly astringent bitterness. Medium carbonation and overall watery. Okay.

Aus der Flasche in Worms getrunken. Tja, was soll man auch groß über ein Industrie-Alt sagen...
