Hansa is brewed in true pilsener style, using the finest Saaz hops. Specially imported from the Czech Republic, these hops are responsible for Hansas unique hoppy aroma and, most importantly, combine with the pilsener style of brewing to make Hansa crisp and flavoursome.

Super light clear golden coloured body with hardly any head at all. Aroma of citrus, light malt, a touch of very very small hops, a little sweetness and not much of anything else. Light-bodied; Sweet and floral taste at first with some apples and pear flavours coming soon afterward - relatively sweet and mild. Aftertaste shows some funkier malt with a little deep pungent flavour and some metallic notes. Overall, a pretty standard pils, perhaps on the bottom half of the chart - not great. I sampled this 33 cL can purchased at the Skukuza Rest Camp in Kruger National Park, near Nelspruit, South Africa on 21-August-2011 sampled at home in Washington on the other side of the planet on 23-December-2011 a few days before leaving to go back to South Africa on holiday.

ALLOVATE (2992) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - OCT 18, 2011
Medium gold, dull and seminally hazy (chill haze?). Lots of eddying streams of carbonation, adorned by a snow-white, resilient and tight head of foam. Dusty, herbal Saaz nose, lightly spiced, peppery and zesty, very clean. Very light, delicate and obscenely crisp on the swallow. Assertively bitter, herbal and grassy back end, a lot of pepper and palest, dry malt fill out the rest. This is as clean as a whistle. Nothing to whinge about per se. A very easy drinking colonial pilsener. (34cL, no date stamp, Thirsty Camel, Butler)

Very bland and watery Pils that only has a crisp dry finish worth any note at all.

Bottle. Appearance is clear bright yellow with a brief white head. Weak nose and taste of sweet golden malts and floral hops. Tastes more like a bland Australian macro-lager than a genuine pilsner.

Beershine (5224) - VANCOUVER, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 3, 2010
Bottle. Ugly straw color but has decent head retention. Aroma is fresh and mildly hoppy with inviting grass and herbal hops. Palate is lightly sticky and the beer is thin and watery. Sweeter flavors than expected including health cereal and corn flakes. Those hops I smell are not coming out. Not a very well developed beer.

340ml bottle from the Wine Company, Slough. Straw with a fast fading white head; leafy hop aroma; malt flavour; gently bitter finish. Plain and simple and well-balanced.
