Both the Experimental Cassis and the Cassis. The Cassis pours very dark red, the experimental light red. The Cassis smells of black currant, some vinegar, cherries, blackberry. The Experimental smells very vinegary, some currant. The Palate of the Cassis is some sour currant, cherries, red grapes, strawberry. The Palate of the Experimental is very sour, but also a bit more intense (one year old), still ok drinkable. Normal Cassis: 4/5. Experimental: 3.6/5 Ritzn (1984) - GERMANY - JUL 28, 2017
2016: Red with little white head. Aroma is cassis cherries, hints of vinegar, more berries, some old mealy stuff. Taste is very sour with a hint of vinegar, some fresh sweet cherry. Too sour vinegar. Rather not.
2017: Dark red with little white head. Aroma is shy cherries with cassis, no vinegar. Sweet milka chocolate. Taste is dry sour berries. Some earthyness. Mealy on the tongue. Only in the finish some vinegar. Still has a nice fruity character.

Side by side: Cassis Lambic 2016. Darker. Much more mellow and balanced, but also thinner. Better fruit. My numbers is for this one.
(375ml April 2015 bottle from Systembolaget) Pours a murky red-brown with no head or bubbles of any kind. Aroma is quite sour and very funky, as heavy a barnyard/manure note as I’ve experienced in lambic coats the nose of this beer. Underneath that, notes of oxidized wine vinegar, currants, dusty fruit skins, tart red berries, extremely musty basement and wood. Flavour is SOUR. The sourest lambic I’ve ever had, moreso than their framboise, and indeed one of the sourest beers. Currants and other very tart red berries, lemon, lighter notes of white vinegar, touches of red grapes, some wood, musty funk and earth underneath, the finish drying somewhat and showing more obvious currant and fruit skins. Remains quite tart through the sip though. Medium bodied, kind of oily, and absolutely flat. It’s definitely not without merits, showcasing a decent bite of the black currants, but the sourness is too overpowering for me. I prefer the various Mikkeller tilts at lambics with this fruit.

Medium/heavy aroma of malts, caramel, wood, blackcurrant, tart, horse blanket and brettanomyces.
Opaque dark red/purple beer with a slight beige/pink head.
Starts medium sweet with malts, caramel, wood and blackcurrant; ends slightly dry and sour with tart, horse blanket and brettanomyces.
This beer is intense, complex and balanced. The aroma is slightly too much of the sour aspects, totally missing the sweet start of the taste. Perfect appearance and a great palate as well.

37.5 cl bottle, served in wine glass. Vintage: 2016. Poured hazy bordeaux red with no head at all and very little carbonation. Aroma: black currants, tart, oak, lambic, leaves in autumn wood, menure, barnyard. Taste: Oooooh this is so friggin good! Black currants, sour, dry, oak barrel, barnyard, cherry, vinous tannine, vinegar, citrus, leather, wet earth. Very sour with dry tannine mouthfeel. The heavy sourness really makes me salivate between the sips and longing for more. The sweetness is very subtile from the currants and also tastes very natural. Very complex and nuanced, a medium body with a very long sour, dry bittersweet finish. It almost contains no carbonation at all but that doesn’t bother me one bit, this Lambic stands on it’s own and has more to do with wine than with beer in my opinion. Bottle from back of my cellar, enjoyed at Aaserød as my rating # 8888. Pours murky deep red/amber with only a thin layer of bubbles. Aroma of acidic berries, blackcurrant , oak, nice and inviting. Taste is vinous, lots of oak here, acidic black currents, dry berry finish, low carbonated, weak astringent at the utter finish, me like.
