COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As with all Gueuzes, Hanssens is a mixture of several vintages to produce a lambic which is refreshingly fruity.

This is the result of blending different lambics of different ages. The second fermentation takes place inside the bottles and therefore they are stored for minimum six months in constant temperature kept cellars.

375 ml bottle. Aroma is about equal funk and light stone fruit. Copper gold color with white smear for head. Medium body with fizzy/creamy carbonation. Flavor is sour fruit, yeast and wood. Finish is astringently dry. Tart isnt in it! One of the more pleasant Geuzes Ive enjoyed.

Bottle corked. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy white head that was lasting with good lacing. Moderate sour yeasty aroma. Medium body with a dry texture. Medium sour citrus flavor with a medium sour finish of moderated duration. This is a standout for style beer.

UPDATED: JAN 15, 2006 (1-14-06, 1.5L bottle) Did not take notes, but no question I enjoyed this a heck of a lot more than 3.7 -- rating adjusted upward accordingly.

(2-8-04, 1.5L bottle) Cloudy golden with small off-white head. Aroma is barnyard vinegar, light gym socks. Taste is vinegar, fruity -- not overly sour. Finishes acidic sour, vinegar. Light-medium body. (7/4/8/3/15)

Scopey (13557) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 6, 2011
A dusty bottle from Nelson Wines. It pours hazy golden yellow, with pretty much no head. The nose is farmyard, wheat, cinnamon, nutmeg, sour apple and chamomile. The taste is tart lemon, sour green apple, white grape, orange pith, light spice and warming alcohol, with a long tangy-tart finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Juicy tartness, well balanced and complex.

UPDATED: DEC 5, 2013 Re-rate 11/13: Bottle sample at a sour tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks zvikar. 2012 bottle. Clear golden. Aroma of oak, barnyard, leather, lemony notes and manure hints. Sour flavor, oaky, leathery and lemony, with a bit of fruity sweetness and a finish with lemon peel bitterness. 8/3/8/3/17=3.9

Re-rate 3/5/11: Bottle at Kulminator in Antwerp. Almost clean golden with a quickly-diminishing white head. Wonderful citric, somewhat sweaty, wild yeast aroma. Sour flavor with some citric notes. Medium-bodied. A good quaffable Gueuze. 8/3/8/4/16=3.9

(2/28/08) Bottle at Staminee de Garre in Bruges. Best before 8/2027. Hazy golden with a collapsing white head. Barnyard, citrus and some wood in the aroma. Sour fruity flavor with some sweetish hints of sugary residue. Medium-bodied. Some more cellar time wouldnt hurt but already very pleasant and refreshing when rather young. 8/3/8/3/16=3.8

1987: Hazy orange gueuze with a thin white head. Wonderfull full aroma with orange zest, animal musk, soil in a cave, and the inevitable horseblanket. In mouth, divine acidity, intense and wonderful in mouth with notes of sour cherries and earth. Rich and complex marriage of lactic and acetic acids. Terribly good. (10-4-9-5-18). Thanks Joris!
2005: Opalescent clear orange amber gueuze with thick white head. Intense horseblanket aroma with grapefruit pulp, freshly pressed. Lighter bodied than 1987 version . more citric acid. Lot more citrusy, Very Refreshing (8-4-8-4-16). Bought at brewery April 2005. (Tasting June 2005, with Dumdum)

Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange with small frothy white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is sour fruit vinegar and strong funk. Thin mouthfeel with sweet fruit and light vinegar with very tart finish. Easy to drink, a very good gueuze.
