2009 Bottle.

Appearance: Slips out a clear, amber-edged, dark golden body with a smallish, but fairly persistent, near white head.

Smell: An even split of sweet-scented clover honey, simple syrup, and caramel ahead of florals, pureed fruit, and plenty of alcohol.

Taste: Sweet and deeply fruity with toothsome tastes of fresh honey, syrup, and light-colored caramel. Bready base malts. Figgy fruitiness. Mild oxidation giving a hint of sherry. Subdued hop character and bitterness. It’s a bit boozy, the Baronen, particularly on the heated, sweetish finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-light carbonation.

Overall: A beer that barely achieves and never exceeds being merely OK.

20-JAN-2012, bottle @Bishops Arms CPH, with Ulkløbben. Clear red/brown with lasting beige head. Nose is alcohol, hops, but mostly sweet dark fruits and bready malts. Taste is sweet, bready, fruity and hoppy. Fine, bitter and sweet barley wine. I like this.

The aroma is very sweet and alcoholic with dark fruit and caramel. The appearance is cloudy amber with a small head. The taste is like the aroma and packs quite a punch both in alcohol and bitterness. The palate is average. Overall not one of my favorite barley wines but not bad.

Bottled. Pours hazy deep brown with a small beige head. Aroma of dark dried fruit, caramel and spicy notes. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry and slightly bitter. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft carbonation. A very nice Barley. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Bottle. Pours a cloudy brown color with a moderate off-white head. Nose is very malty with the characteristic dry wine elements of the style. Taste is just a tad sweet with the malty alcoholic backbone so often seen. Interesting, but not my favorite sort of brew.

Ktwse (4240) - Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 13, 2014
Pours clear dark brown with a finger of light tan head. Aroma of toffee, vanilla, caramel, light bread, light banana, some basement aromas. Taste is big, bold butterscotch burnt butter sweet, long sweet finish. Body is rich and creamy although with very rich carbonation, which kind of pulls the entire package apart.

Bottle @ home. Aroma is porty red fruit, caramel malt, apple cider, some spice, grenadine. Flavour is red fruit, caramel malt, some spices. Touch of alcohol. A bit old (it’s an old bottle) but still okay.
