330ml bottle from Sainsbury’s. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aromas are coffee, toffee, milk chocolate, roasted malt and caramel. Taste has a nice hit of sweetness followed by a mellow hop bitterness for good balance. Medium bodied, creamy texture, low carbonation bu t fine for the style. Finishes bitter and long. Very nice. viktorvee (510) - Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 30, 2013
Sainsbury beer hunt. Nice, reminds me of kernel export stout a bit, some, cracking balance between initial sweet, some dryness, chalk, chocolate. Excellent. Philym (1003) - St Neots, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND - SEP 30, 2013
Appearance: Brown with very thin ivory head which was quick to disappear.
Aroma: Coffee, roasted notes, grassy, toast, very subtle vanilla and hints of liquorice.
Taste: Medium sweetness, low bitterness and sourness. Slight umami and saltiness.
Palate: Smooth thin light texture and body, caramel upfront with coffee sourness in the middle, which developed into liquorice flavours and on into a lingering bitter finish.
Comments: Very good and left a glass lace. The_Osprey (10145) - Richmond, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 29, 2013
Bottle from Sainsbury’s, into tulip. Thin pour like flat cola, to form a black beer with a little head. Smell is slight smoke and coffee, lots more chocolate. Body is quite thin and carbonation is high for the style. Taste is slight sweet caramel as advertised, a little coffee and yeast, chocolate wafer finish. All quite toned down. Decent, but nothing too exciting. Lots of potential there though. StevieT (2008) - AUSTRALIA - SEP 28, 2013
Pours dark brown, with a thin head. Strong coffee and caramel flavour, quite smooth and pleasant. Try it.

Bottle from Sainburys. Colour is dark brown, good clarity, small off white head. Nose is rich coffee, milk chocolate, lactic milkiness, ale fruity, caramel. Taste is really nice. Ale fruity, caramel, rich black coffee, light milk chocolate. Really nicely balanced and a cracking porter. Can’t believe this is only £1.50 in the Sainburys Beer Hunt challenge. Great first beer! Rich chocolate and deep roasted malt aroma, with only the slightest liquorice traces and mild acidity. Perfectly balanced sweet and rich chocolate, with bitter roasted malt flavour. Good hearty body, more reminiscent of a stout. Lingering alcoholic finish leaparsons (11033) - Wigston, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - SEP 22, 2013
Bottle. Very dark brown with an off white foam. Aromas are coffee with dark berries and liquorice. Plummy with fudge and chocolate. Marzipan with hints of soy sauce. Flavours are peppery with nutty coffee and dark chocolate bitterness. Citrus rind with grapefruit and base sweet chocolate. Herbal liquorice with hints of smoke. Bitter on the finish. Nice.
