We could tell you it’s a black IPA, and if we did we would be letting you into a great secret. But as you don’t believe in black IPA, you can just pass over this beer and move back to your dark mild as after all, black beer shouldn’t taste this good.

stravale (3088) - Co. Westmeath, - FEB 15, 2013
Bottle from Tomlinsons, Inverness [160213]
Black, thin ruby edges on glass, thin tan head, some lacing
Aroma - soft citrus, hint of chocolate, light aroma
Taste soft roasted malts, touch of cola, some sweet dark malts, touch of chocolate, citrus hops, dab of piney hop, nice touch of floral hop, well balanced...good flavour but rather light though...i like BIPAs to be fairly robust
Palate - Medium carb, bit over carbonated thin to medium body. Soft mouthfeel, light bitterweet palate. Finish as main flavour with a soft linger with some roasted dark malts coming through
Overall - A black IPA with a mellow stouty flavour with some soft citrus and a dab of floral hop in there. ...there are many variations of BIPAs out there - this is the style I like.....Must try this in cask one day

Cask Half Pint at London Drinker Beer Festival, London, March 2015 - Very Dark Brown in colour. Off-white head. Malty; roasty malts, coffee, caramel, hint of chocolate. Fruity; grapefruit citrus. Hoppy; piney & grassy hops. Bitter fruity meets roast malty. I’m not a BIPA fan, but I quite liked this. Decent. (2015-03-11)

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy off white head. The aroma is grassy lemon hop, some yeast notes. The flavour is moderate bitter with a surprisingly smooth, light, grassy hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Decent easy drinkable bipa. Just a bit to over carbonated. Black color with a fine beige head. Decent intensity in the aroma. Medium (+) body and a bit to rich carbonation. Ok balance between sweetness and bitterness. Dark malt, pine, hoppy and fruity flavor.

Bottle at home. Pours a deep brown-black colour with a tight off-white head. Strong aroma of peppery hop, spruce and slightly funky. Taste is very bitter indeed. Almost mineral-like palate with some sappy malt background. Very dry finish. Not bad, but these black IPAs aren’t really my thing. I wouldn’t have more than one in a session.

Bottle chaired by Björn, thanks. Huge beighe fluffy head. Brown color. Fruity aroma. Big bitterness with a tuch of dark malts.
