Sampled on draft at the Hardywood Tap Takeover at Joe’s Inn. Pours a near opaque amber/copper with a small ring of off-white head. Sweet light cherry and vanilla nose was pleasant, but not amazing. What was amazing was the flavor. I have never had a bourbon barrel beer that was so well done. It was the PERFECT amount of whiskey flavor (not too weak to notice, not to abrasive to cover the base beer). Absolutely lovely creamy vanilla smoothness. Maybe the smoothest BB beer I’ve ever had too. This is the exact opposite of "hot" and deceptively drinkable. The base beer has mellowed quite a bit, but perhaps the only thing I didn’t care for was the slight twinge of woody tannens of the base beer that I found on the tail end. Didn’t care for that. But if they can transport this particular technique of barrel aging to say, their gingerbread stout, then they might produce the best beer of all time!

From the tap came a amber brew with a light white head. Strong bourbon aroma. Full bodied with fruity, malty, bourbon. Malt, flavors with a hop finish. tia (2228) - Sandston, Virginia, USA - DEC 26, 2012
Tap. Dark amber with dissipating thin head. Smells like an Old Fashioned and maybe a little buttery. Taste follows. Moderate carbonation, a touch thick, finish is more sweet than dry. I like the regular Hoplar better.
