I prefer this beer without the barrel aging. Pumpkin flavors seem subdued although there is added complexity. Would have liked for this to have a more solid mouthfeel given the wood, smoke, and pumpkin notes. Tasted substantial but didn’t feel that way. On Draft at Mekong for the Anniversary party 2012. Clear amber pour with very small, almost non existent offwhite head ring. Aroma is clean and cidery, almost sweet cider, but not fake sweetness like a woodchuck, but the natural sweetness of fresh apples. Sweet flavor, and more vanilla than bourbon, and very smooth and soft on the palate. Very woody. The effervescence (and a lot of the pumpkin character) of the base beer seems to have faded off from this. Maybe pumpkin beers just aren’t meant for aging? Not the best example of how good these guys can barrel age stuff.
