750 mL bottle shared with Gus. The pour is a lighter black with a thick light tan head and a good bit of lace as it falls. The aroma is strange. There is a milky chocolate metallic with a light pepper addition. It’s got a little roast and a hint of the pepper. Without the heat. It’s interesting. The flavornis a little better, but not much. The chocolate is sweeter and metallic with the pepper flesh. I don’t really get this one. It’s a bit messy from top to bottom. The mouth feel is lighter medium bodied with a sharper carbonation and a lingeringly sweet chocolate and metallic malty finish. Meh. 5 4 5 3 12 djd07 (15341) - Houston, Texas, USA - APR 24, 2014
Bottle thanks to Matt. Pours a dark cloudy brown with medium frothy beige head that leaves sticky lacing. The aroma is roast, chocolate, and peppers. Thin mouthfeel with chocolate malt, light pepper and spice. Good. alexsdad06 (10640) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - JAN 27, 2014
750 ml bottle shared by phaleslu. Pourz dark brown to black in color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor had chocolate, some roast, vanilla, earth, peppery spice that was just enough to notice, a berry note like some peppers get with time. I went into this expecting more which added to the disappointment. mar (5436) - Dallas, Texas, USA - JAN 20, 2014
Deep amber with a cream head. Nose is light spice, chocolate, alcohol, and roasted malts. Great palate, light spice, roasted malts, spicy, and sticky chocolate smooth finish. phaleslu (10547) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JAN 20, 2014
750 ml bottle from RABinVA- thanks, Brosmer! Pours a deep brown color with a small khaki head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, leaves, earth, cola, sugar, and just a bit of peppery spice. The flavor also doesn’t have much heat, but more chocolate and vanilla and molasses sweetness. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, roasty, moderately spicy mouthfeel. Actually drinks like it’s a much older beer - like the spice and nuance have aged out - which is disappointing.

Bottle shared by phaleslu. Poured a dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted chocolate and roasted peppers aroma. Medium to heavy toasted sweet chocolate flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a solid interesting beer. DrSilverworm (9671) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JAN 17, 2014
750ml bottle, shared by phaleslu. Dark brown color. Appears black from a distance... Thin brown head, dots and ropes of lace. Some smoke in the nose, dark fruit, some red jolly rancher type thing going on. Just a very light heat in the finish, less than expected. Maybe an older bottle. Bigger body, lighter carbonation. Lightly slick. Bigger sweet taste, light bitter. OK imperial stout. Not great right now. A light bite and more sweetness than I like. b3shine (9072) - Indiana, USA - JAN 15, 2014
750 ml bottle to snifter (shared by phaleslu). Looks good; chocolate with thin beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells of dark malt, mild chocolate, and pepper spice. Tastes like it smells with a bit more chocolate. Nice on the palate, especially for a pepper beer. Decent beer. GenDV138 (7579) - Falls Church, Virginia, USA - JAN 11, 2014
Bottle poured into Belgian snifter. 2013 release. Pours black with 1-1.5 finger tan head, decent lacing. Aromas of chocolate, cinnamon, light peppers. Tastes of milk chocolate, light peppers, dark fruit, light spices, caramel/toffee, maybe a little vanilla. Finishes sweet with light pepper heat. Peppers may have faded since whenever this was bottled. Foxbush (2086) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JAN 5, 2014
22 oz bottle This was purchased from Total Wine awhile ago for tasting. The stout poured a deep opaque black with a HUGE frothy head. Lacing and a tan head stayed with the beer. The aroma was subtle roasted malt and pepper. The taste was of chili pepper, and chocolate. The light body stout had lively carbonation after popping the cork. The finish was acidic with coffee and chocolate at the finish. This stout is not one of my favorites from hardywood.
