In the tradition of the farmhouse ales of Belgium’s southern countryside, Hardywood Farmhouse Pumpkin is brewed with a blend of rye, wheat and barley, earthy flavoring hops and a classic saison yeast. Beyond this, Hardywood Farmhouse Pumpkin breaks totally free of classic style guidelines. Ripe, flame roasted Virginia sugar pumpkins and brown sugar provide a hearty backbone to this 8.5% ABV beer. Freshly ground Ceylon cinnamon, whole Grenada nutmeg, whole Madegascar clove and whole allspice are harmonized with pounds of freshly sliced organic ginger root. A beautiful hue of autumn russet, Hardywood Farmhouse Pumpkin displays a voluminous head, with a bouquet of aromatic fresh spice. Medium to full in body, this ale offers a balanced flavor of caramelized pumpkin and pie spices, with a lingering finish laced with a hint of fresh ginger. Sugar pumpkins came from the Farm to Family Market on Mechanicsville Turnpike. Peruvian organic ginger came from Ellwood Thompsons Local Market in Carytown. Pumpkin Pie Spice came from C.F. Sauer, right around the corner from Hardywood. Whole Ceylon cinnamon, whole Grenada nutmeg, whole Madagascar cloves and whole allspice came from Penzys Spices in Carytown. All are local Richmond businesses.

Draft - poured a clear orange color with a small white head. Aroma was more clove and some allspice than perhaps nutmeg or cinnamon. Seet ginger notes, pumpkin - mild malts - this was a pretty good and solid pumpkin brew. Very refreshing for 8.5% - liked the brew a lot.

Bottle shared by a friend. Pours clear amber with a thick off-white head. Aroma of malt, spices and pumpkin. Malty flavor with pumpkin before a cinnamon and ginger finish.

Mostly clear. Quickly dissipating white head. From a bottle. Earthy nose. Light on the spicy flavorings but nice on the palate.

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2016 Draft at Khyber Pass. Hazy pumpkin orange pour with a slim amount of off-white foam. Modestly funky brew with a good amount of pumpkin spice. Sweet and spicy. Earthy but clean. Pumpkin squash. Raw sugarcane. Allspice. Anise. Ginger. Cinnamon. Nutmeg. Clove. The rye adds a nice element. Betters most pumpkin brews this time of year but still not really feeling it.

$10.29 bomber from Kroger - marked on sale $8.99, but of course it didn’t ring up. Popping this to watch Mascots! Pours orange with an inch of cream-colored head. Aroma of cinnamon, actual pumpkin, clove. Flavor is lightly sweet without being sickening: vanilla, cinnamon, pumpkin, nutmeg, clove. Quite tasty!

It has aromas of pumpkin, fruity esters, cherry, and slight earthly elements. There is a complex combination of the fruity esters and the pumpkin that creates a sweet finish. There are also hints of nutmeg and brown sugar.

MadIndian (2743) - Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 29, 2016
Sampled with Matt. JT and Mike. Body seemed a little thin, but overall, the brew was decent. Nice notes of nutmeg, pumpkin, rye with a splash of bourbon.

Huhzubendah (3709) - Washington DC, USA - DEC 31, 2015
Bright orange, mild haze, small off-white head. Sweet pumpkin, light spice, malty aroma. A touch of cinnamon, nutmeg. Medium bodied, subtle alcohol presence. Decent in small doses.

daknole (11049) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - DEC 6, 2015
Amberish pour, white head. Spice, rye, pumpkin, vanilla, boozy. A lot going on.

mcberko (18081) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 23, 2015
750mL bottle, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma is very hot, with earthy notes, pumpkin spice, and alcohol. Flavour is along the same lines, with alcohol, pumpkin spices, and earth. Pretty hot and the notes don’t really work together. Meh.

Ferris (15901) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 21, 2015
Bottle - Lots of spice and a bit of perfume. Clear gold with a thin white head. Tons of clove and really way too much spice. Not good.
