COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed with baby ginger from Casselmonte Farm and wildflower honey from Bearer Farms, Hardywood Gingerbread Stout captures the terroir of central Virginia in a rich, creamy libation with a velvety mouthfeel and an intriguing evolution of flavors from milk chocolate and vanilla to honeycomb and cinnamon to a snap of ginger in the finish. Deep, dark chocolate in color with a mahogany tint and a frothy, caramel colored head, Hardywood Gingerbread Stout offers aromatics of holiday spice originating from the ginger, and balanced with a generous dose of whole Madagascar bourbon vanilla beans and Vietnamese cinnamon. Milk sugar (lactose) contributes to the full body of this stout and tames its roasty character, while oats lend a silky quality. Enjoy fresh, or cellar for a special occasion. We hope Hardywood Gingerbread Stout contributes to your merriment this season.

I probably didnt let this one "warm" up enough as there isnt the slightest bit of head on this pour. It is thick though, and it is black. Really heavy-looking. Might be the glass I chose though, because CPs pour had a nice half-finger of mocha-colored froth on top. This is a really thick and luscious beer. Heavy, slightly oily feel. Good carbonation. A sipper. The first whiff of this smells exactly like freshly-baked gingerbread cookies. Spot on. They nailed it. Sweet bready aroma, vanilla, creme brulee, faint chocolate. Smells great. This beer starts out sweet for sure, with just a smidge of ginger on the finish. Sometimes when a sweet stout is "imperialized," it can get too sweet and cloying. Not this one. Great balance of sweetness and semi-bitter dark chocolate. Vanilla, sugar cookies, ginger, roasted cocoa. Im glad I split this bottle, as I wouldnt think Id enjoy a full bottle to myself, but as my glass empties, I find myself wishing there was more. Fantastic beer. Id like more, and am definitely interested in the Barrel-Aged version now.

Pours dark chocolate brown with a buff head. Aroma presents ginger, roast malt, mocha and molasses tones. Flavor is like liquid gingerbread but with roast malt and a little coffee, distinctive and very pleasing. Mouthfeel has firm body and peppy fizz. A holiday in your mouth any time of year.

Bottle poured into a snifter showing caramel brown rims and pitch black center with sparse latte colored foam. The nose shows a strong ginger forwardness with hints of cinnamon around the edges. The palate is light bodied and well carbonated. A light ginger forwardness with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. Completely dry with roasted malts becoming apparent on the mid-palate finishing on a roasted malt bitterness with a resurgence of ginger on the finish.

Bottle courtesy of jc1762. Cheers, Jon! Pours a stout brown with a tan head. Nose is raw ginger, cocoa, chocolate, earth, and spice. Flavor is a mouthful of raw ginger followed by chocolate, cocoa, and earth. Medium in body and lingering ginger to infinity.

Dark pour with tan head poured from draft at TJs. Licorice, bread, chocolate aroma. Very sweet stout but balanced with the booze. Not sure if theres much gingerbread in here but its sweet and spicy. Actually, it does taste like a gingerbread cookie.

Black pour with minimal head. Aromas of cinnamon sugar, ginger, clove and toasted raisin bread. Taste explosions of gingerbread, molasses, espresso sweetness, fig, brown malt, bread, honey, cinnamon, fresh vanilla bean, lactose sugars. Christmas in a bottle. Smooth mouth feel. This beer is good money. If you see it, grab a bottle. Dont think you will be disappointed. Nice way to bring in 2017.

Perfect gingerbread on the nose and tongue, huge head that hangs around for a while. Full of everything that is good roasted. Great mouth feel. ABV is well hidden.
