Tap. Hazy caramel with nice cream head and decent lacing. Smells of grapefruit and boxwood. A touch of butteriness in the flavor (and something that comes off as woody), but hoppy enough that they quickly take over. Nice moderate hop finish. Score another one for Richmond. Sampled at the Hardywood Beer Dinner at Popkin’s Tavern. Clearish amber pour with a clean and zesty pineapple nose. Piney hops and the rye spiciness came out on the flavor. Lingering bitterness on the tail end. The was served with a braised pork belly on a bed of pickled carrots and a thai chili glaze. This was definitely the best "pairing" of the night. The spiciness of the rye and the citrus sweetness in the beer stood up perfectly to the heat of the thai chilis. Draft sample at VA Beer & Cheer Festival, 12/8/12. Pours a hazy amber color with a large creamy off-white head. Good head retention. Aroma of rye with herbal and citrus hops. On tap at the VA Cheer & Beer. Pours hay with a slight white head. Aroma is slightly spicy with a bit of grass. Taste is excellent balances of spicy rye and hops bitterness with a slight bit of citrus. Walked away wanting a growler fill.
