From notes. Enjoyed this one with the Ann Arbor crew at a tasting at Corbet’s house on November 18. 750 mL bottle. The pour is a nice darker brown/black color with a thick ring of lighter khaki colored head and a spot or two of lace as it falls away. The aroma is pretty good. There is a sweetness of the rum that greets you first with a lingering chocolate and a growing gingerbread. The oakiness on the back end opens up a little bit of molasses peeks in. The flavor is a little better. The rum is present, but the alcohol isn’t as much. The chocolate and gingerbread are solid with a strong oak and a light molasses. The mouth feel is medium bodied with a bit of a sharp carbonation and a lingeringly smooth chocolate and gingerbread on the finish with a light rum sweetness. Draft at Churchkey. Poured a nearly pitch black color with a small wispy head. Aroma was spices, roasted and sweet malt characters. Gingerbread is still pretty strong in this one, for being a keg from at least 6 months back. Woody notes, boozy rum notes. Rum cake notes, gingerbread. The nose shows ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
The palate is light bodied and moderately carbonated. Very ginger forward with flavors of nutmeg and cinnamon in the background. Ginger leaves a strong and sharp spiciness throughout. Not much rum barrel at all.
