COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gingerbread Stout matured in Caribbean dark rum barrels, where it adapts an incredibly mellow character with a crescendo of gingerbread spice giving way to subtly sweet, lingering molasses and spiced rum notes and emerges 12 weeks later as Rum Barrel GBS. A festive blend of spice and character laces this rich, chocolatey stout, which warms the palate and the soul.

Bottle at RBGT. Pours dark brown. Aroma is rum barrel indeed, over some porter roastiness and gingerbread spices. Body is heavy, with strong rum barrel notes, sweet caramel and nuts. Long sweet palate. Nice.

Pours a deep black from the bomber with bubbly tan head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of booze and spice. Taste is spicy ginger and cinnamon notes over hints of rum and booze. Really nice, a little hot, but good stuff.

Thanks Matt for sharing the bottle! Poured into a taster showing pitch black with no head. The nose shows ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon. The palate is light bodied and moderately carbonated. Very ginger forward with flavors of nutmeg and cinnamon in the background. Ginger leaves a strong and sharp spiciness throughout. Not much rum barrel at all.

I havent had a variation of Hardywoods GBS stout that was anything less than outstanding. This is one more home run, just as I expected. Rum Barrel GBS isnt significantly different from the other variations, Im not sure that the rum barrel aging was able to distinctly and clearly distinguish itself from the already pronounced ginger and spice tones of regular GBS. But its still damn fine. This beer pours dark brown to black with average but brief head. The aroma, like other versions of GBS, is sweet, spicy and rich. So is the flavor. There may be a little more sweetness and a little more Caribbean spice going on here, as compared to the bourbon barrel aged and coffee blended varieties. But it isnt enough to significantly change the character of an already fantastic stout. I have absolutely no complaints.
