COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gingerbread Stout matured in Caribbean dark rum barrels, where it adapts an incredibly mellow character with a crescendo of gingerbread spice giving way to subtly sweet, lingering molasses and spiced rum notes and emerges 12 weeks later as Rum Barrel GBS. A festive blend of spice and character laces this rich, chocolatey stout, which warms the palate and the soul.

2016 and 2017 bottles shared at Lucky Bamboo GBS share. Thanks Matthew and Andrew! Pours a deep brown to black with a finger of foam that lingers. Nice coconut rum aromas on the nose with gingerbread cookie and chocolate. 2016 the barrel is well-integrated and balanced. Good complex coconut, nutmeg and ginger flavors throughout. The 2017 seemed to be more or less a splash of rum in a beer. Preferred the 2016 by a lot. Rating is for the 2016 bottle.

Tap at C-ville location, yesterday. Pours black and thick. Aroma is quite lovely sweet rum on top of chocolate, raisin, ginger, caramel, earth. Flavor is also quite nice - this works well in the rum barrel. Gingerbread cookies, chocolate, rum, alcohol, vanilla, oak, earth. Very nice.

From notes. Enjoyed this one with the Ann Arbor crew at a tasting at Corbet’s house on November 18. 750 mL bottle. The pour is a nice darker brown/black color with a thick ring of lighter khaki colored head and a spot or two of lace as it falls away. The aroma is pretty good. There is a sweetness of the rum that greets you first with a lingering chocolate and a growing gingerbread. The oakiness on the back end opens up a little bit of molasses peeks in. The flavor is a little better. The rum is present, but the alcohol isn’t as much. The chocolate and gingerbread are solid with a strong oak and a light molasses. The mouth feel is medium bodied with a bit of a sharp carbonation and a lingeringly smooth chocolate and gingerbread on the finish with a light rum sweetness. I like this one. 7 4 8 4 15

Pours opaque coffee brown, not much head. Aroma features gingerbread, roast malt, woody and rum notes. Flavor adds a little coffee and molasses to the mix. Mouthfeel presents good body and fair fizz. Roll out the barrel!

Draft at Churchkey. Poured a nearly pitch black color with a small wispy head. Aroma was spices, roasted and sweet malt characters. Gingerbread is still pretty strong in this one, for being a keg from at least 6 months back. Woody notes, boozy rum notes. Rum cake notes, gingerbread. Enjoyable, but in small doses I think.

Bottle at RBGT. Pours dark brown. Aroma is rum barrel indeed, over some porter roastiness and gingerbread spices. Body is heavy, with strong rum barrel notes, sweet caramel and nuts. Long sweet palate. Nice.
