COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
West Coast Style IPA. Bold, resinous and bursting with bright grapefruit aroma, this IPA is a tribute to the decades of hard work by conservationists to restore the James River as a bounty of vibrant aquatic life, eco-friendly recreational activity, and in our case, fresh brewing water. These efforts have culminated recently with the symbolic return of the endangered Atlantic sturgeon, a prehistoric, yet majestic behemoth of a fish, spotted as far up the James River as the fall line in Richmond. Your purchase of this beer supports the James River Association. Thank you for being a part of The Great Return. In our commitment to James River conservation, Hardywood will contribute $10 per barrel of The Great Return to The James River Association, to support their mission to be the guardian of the James River. The JRAs core programs include Watershed Restoration, Education and Outreach, River Advocacy and the Riverkeeper Program.

16oz can pours clear toasted orange with 2 finger head. Nose is floral citrus, honey, toast, orange, light pine. Taste is well balanced with medium high bitterness, assertive but clean malt presence of toasted grain and honey, hints of orange sweetness with bright floral hops, some peach notes. Finishes bitter, lingering citrus, toast, grain, orange, floral, soft pine. Enjoyed this.

Pours a clear golden orange on tap with fluffy white head that dissipates to leave moderate lace. Aroma of resinous west coast hops, puberty and earthy, with a hint of biscuit malt. Taste is bigger, bitterness throughout, but nice hop character. Not bad, but honestly nothing fantastic.

In a 16oz can. Booming aroma of pine resin. Thick, sticky, glistening lace. Flavors are super-robust: Lots of grapefruit and orange with a hint of toffee and caramel. Finishes with some grapefruit zest and cleanly. An absolute winner.

Pours a light amber color with a lacy white head. Nose is citrus rind and fresh malt taste is mostly bitter pith. Nice.

Can: Floral hop aroma and flavor with a bunch of fresh citrus. Solid example of a West Coast IPA from the east coast.

Can - Very dry taste in the palate. Lots of fruit flavors going on, mostly grapefruit. Bitterness is at the right level for my tastes as well.

Can from Berttttt! Poured into a snifter, bright orange in color with a good head. Smells nice, pineapple, mango, tropical fruits. Taste follows the nose... Lots of tropical fruits, mango, light peach, pineapple with a nice bitter after taste. Nice west coast style. Body is medium, smooth, easy drinker. Overall... very enjoyable ... highly recommend it! Thanks Bert!

Can. Pours a slightly hazy dark gold to orange body with a small frothy white head that faded to a wispy covering. The nose is citrusy, but theres a heavy caramel malt base thats throwing off a lot of sweetness, which usually isnt a good thing. The flavor is super bitter, but not especially hoppy to me. Theres still a heavy sweetness below all those hops, and I dont really care for that all too much in an IPA. Its not terrible or anything, but its just not my style. Medium to full bodied, a little heavy and chewy with fizzy carbonation. Meh, not all that.
