Harmon Tap Room, Tacoma. Thin gray tan foam, quite dark brown black. Sweet metallic malt, thin hops in nose grow in to richer pine in the body. Rather bitter but still pretty malt focused. Fruity red malt isnt fantastic. Ok.

Draft pour to a schooner at Harmon, Tacoma. Pours blacker than their stout. Thick tan cream foam head and lacing. Very garden aroma with goods and vegetables. Grassy hops, vegetal, with a coffee roast that shows up way late. Bitter, and a bit harsh. A bit disappointing for me. Not very pleasant for my taste.

Draught at the brewpub, as CDA Black IPA, 8% ABV
Black color with brown compact head, nice lace. Both aroma and flavor have a strong presence of roasted malts and resiny hops, it gets a bit ashy, burnt in the final, and it has strong bitterness. Similar to the Winter Ale, but more roasty and hoppy.
Good beer, not difficult to brew in this way, but pleasant.

Well put together cda. Black and thick like imperial porter. The head fades quickly though. A hint of chocolate and roasted hazelnut nose. Roasted, heavy malts dominate the palate. Some hops shine through on the finish, but this drinks more like porter than cda/bipa.

650ml bottle pours almost black in color with a finger and a half of off-white head that leaves a thin lacing on the glass. Aroma is light roasted malts and some woodsy hops. Taste is light malty sweetness with a roasted malt bitterness and a woody hop bitterness to round things out. This is a nice refreshing dark ale which had a medium body and moderate carbonation. Quite enjoyable.

In short: A roasted and piney exemplary Black IPA. Typical but very well made example of the style
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed relatively fresh, approximately 2 months after purchase. Bottle from mcberko, thanks a lot Matt
The look: Black body topped by a small dark beige head
In long: Nose is cold black coffee, dank piney hops, roast, some chocolate. Taste is roasted, burnt toasts and a sip of cold black coffee, nice light chocolate notes, blackberry jam, a good amount of piney hops with light citrusy notes. Bitterness level is medium. Overall this is a by-the-book archetypical Black IPA, if you love the style you will love this beer but if you dont love the style you will not find anything that will make you change your mind here. Very nice beer. And the if the Surgeon General thinks his warnings on beer bottles will prevent me from drinking large quantities of quality beer is almost as delusional as the dude who decided on the recommended serving sizes printed on the back of large potato chips bags.

Thanks to someone for sharing this at the May Freetail bottle release. The beer pours a dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma is what I expected. I get some medium roasted malt and a little bit of chocolate, as well as a big dose of pine from the hops. The flavor follows suit. The pine from the hops goes fairly well with the bitter roasted malt and light chocolate. The bitterness from the hops and malts make the beer fairly bitter overall. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Mostly black with a thin, tan head. Soft and smooth texture, but only a mild carbonation. Sweet and classic CDA nose. Rich debittered dark malt flavors were really nice. Notes of sugary tar and woodsy chocolate. Healthy amount of hops, especially as they built over time. Mostly grass and pine. On the sweet side, but flavorful nonetheless.

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours quite black with garnet glints along the edges. Creamy/fizzy 3 finger dark tan head. Aroma of chocolate and hop. Med body. Flavor? Chocolate. More chocolate. Smooth toasted malt. More chocolate. Oh, yes, theres bitter all along. Not strongly bitter, but way more bitter that malt. The near burnt malt backbone may help with the bitter. What kind of hop? Duh! Bitter! Damn tasty stuff.
