This is yet another original flagship brew and of the English persuasion. Our brewer does love his dark beers and decided to brew this slightly unheralded style. Porters, related to stouts, come in two basic styles: Brown and Robust. Robust styles tend to be heavier, stronger and even slightly darker. Brown Porters tend to be more drinkable as a session brew. Our Puget Sound Porter is a lovely dark Brown with strong hints of ruby. A wonderful coffee roasted and chocolate nose makes this Porter unique and enhances the medium bodied brew. The flavors of coffee and chocolate follow through each sip of this porter. 8 different malted barley’s, including Pale Chocolate and dark German barley make up the grist. Two hop additions balance the beer’s flavor. Our brewers 2nd favorite child! GABF Gold in 1999 5.4% ABV and 40 IBUs.

Draft pour, tasted at Harmon, Tacoma. Pours black with a tan foam head. I know I’ve had this beer before, forever ago. Fun to revisit what was obviously a memorable porter. Rich in chocolate aroma and flavor. Toasty. A slight bitterness throughout. Roasted chocolate malt late reminder. A well put together porter. Excellent.

Harmon Tap Room, Tacoma. Creamy soft foam, dark brown-black. Pale, slight lactic porter roast nose. Sweet malt, touch of cream, peppery bitter finish. Modest weight. Pretty alright.

Draught at the brewpub
Black color with brown creamy head. A solid coffee brew, smooth, with a lot of roastiness and no chocolate. A good beer, if you like ashy flavors, but not a Porter.

Rating #1983 2015.09.26 #CraftTakesSeattle Day 3, Beer 85 - Draught at taphouse Pours a bubbly brown with a weak white cap, little retention. Aroma is cocoa, coffee, earth. Palate is mild cocoa, espresso - sweetness curbed by lovely earth bitterness pronounced. Decent porter.

Porter blind taste #2. Aroma is much bigger than the first. Sweeter, with coffee and caramelization. Appearance is darker than #1, deep brown with small ring of head. Tastes: like a dry, soulless, faded cola without enough syrup. Palate: light body, small-bubbled carbonation, chalky texture. Overall: I liked the nose at first, but the rest was a disappointment.

Porter Blind Tasting #2. A little more brown in color that the first porter. Strong coffee character from the malt, not actually coffee. Light ashtray and faint toffee. Flavor is a little sweeter with some toffee essence but not sugary sweet. A little dry finish and some sandpaper like roughness at the end. More dull than anything else.

Serving: from tap at Harmon Brewery and Restaurant. Aroma: moderate vanilla and smoke. Appearance: small, creamy, light-brown, initial head with excellent lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Clear, cola-brown body. Taste: moderate vanilla initial flavor and heavy smoke finish with long duration. Palate: medium body, oily texture and lively carbonation. Overall: excellent. Great smokey flavor, lasting aroma.

1 pint bottle. Strong roasted coffee and dark chocolate aroma. Dark porter appearance with minimal carbonation and head. Drak chocolate flavour with woody notes and a hint of cherries. Full bodied with a sweet finish. Good porter.

Sledutah (7973) - Utah, USA - FEB 15, 2015
22oz bottle from Yokes in Richland, WA
Pours dark brown with a small beige head, some lacing. Aroma of roasted coffee and milk chocolate. Flavors of roasted malts, coffee, ashy and chocolate
A nice Porter
