Draft at airport bar. Have had this often enough before, but not since I started rating. This is definitely not an American type lager, its color is noticeably darker than that, and will already mark you as someone who knows the difference between horse-p--- and beer. Good taste is there, pleasing beery aroma and even some hop flavor. Above average.

Scipio (978) - Palatine, Illinois, USA - APR 9, 2017
Pours a pale, watery yellow with a thin white head. The aroma is pretty weak. Its made up mostly of floral hops, but I do get some grain and lemon as well. The taste has a very light sweetness and is somewhat bitter. Floral hops are still heavier, with bread, mild earthy malts, lemon, and some graininess that comes through more at the end. The aftertaste is lemon and grain, but sadly the grainy flavor here is more potent. Light in body, thin in texture, and average in carbonation. I remember about 15 years ago when I considered this a premium beer. Today, unfortunately, I canít find anything positive with this one.

Aroma is slightly sweet, slightly funky, earthy hops, corn, a really off-putting sweetness. Appearance is darker golden, white head, clear and bubbly. Taste is corn, slightly fruity, earthy hops, metallic, not good. Mouthfeel is light body, light crisp carbonation, corn and fruity aftertaste. Overall, a 96 by style? They sure set the bar low for this style. Itís not atrocious, but itís severely lacking in a way that a typical macro does.

As Harp Ice Cold, 5%. Tap at Hercules, Belfast. Poured a crystal clear straw colour with a thin long-lasting white head and a few bubbles. The aroma is lager malt, light hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a grainy dry malt hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with lively carbonation.

Tap @ Slatterys bar. Clear golden color, average sized white head. Smell and taste malts, light grains, light bitterness. Bit dusty as well. Average body and carbonation. Meh, drinkable but boring lager.†

Pours pale gold, clear, pillowy head - rather meh, but at least it doesnít look cheap. Aroma is very corny and grainy... sweet, damp, kinda tinny - not a fan. Taste has a lightly creamy quality to it; grain bill is prominent - clean and bready malts, not a lot of hops but slight floral, herbal presence is in the finish. Mouthfeel is surprisingly hefty and satisfying. Certainly a better-than-average pale lager, but keep your expectations in check.
