2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle from Sam’s in Durham. Dark brown with light around the edges. Small head, but I kept coaxing it. Roasty coffee aromas last for a few minutes, then milk chocolate... but then aromas of dirt and even manure creep in. Taste is sweet, earthy, and thin. How hard is it to make at least a decent coffee porter?
22oz bottle. Poured a dark brown with a tan head. Coffee, roast, vanilla, and some chocolate. bellco33 (845) - Willington, Connecticut, USA - DEC 31, 2016
On tap at the brewery: Pours dark brown with a foamy khaki head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, sugar. Taste is mildly sweet but balanced out with the coffee bitterness and roasted malt. Medium to heavy body, slightly stickly on the palate, not super sweet. Pretty solid. corby112 (2813) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 12, 2015
Pours an opaque, dark chestnut brown color with a two finger beige head that has very good retention, only slowly settling into a lasting cap/ring. Streaks of soapy lace left being.
Rich and robust malt aroma with a strong roasted coffee presence along with silky chocolate, caramel, toffee and hazelnut. Also a bit nutty with a subtle lactic presence. Smells like gourmet roasted coffee in beer form.
On the lighter end of medium body and sligtly watered down with a deeply roasted malt and coffee presence that lingers throughout. Slightly burnt and acrid with stale coffee/espresso bean, dark chocolate, oatmeal and burnt toast. Not as complex as the nose suggests. Creaminess, sweetness and nutty flavors found in the aroma are lacking. Not terrible but one dimensional and too light for the style. djd07 (15544) - Houston, Texas, USA - FEB 16, 2015
Bottle. Pours a clear copper with small beige head. The aroma is roast and dark chocolate. Medium mouthfeel with strong coffee roast and dark chocolate with nice sweet malt. Good. Glouglouburp (6103) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 25, 2014
In short: A nutty and lactic dark ale with plenty of cold black coffee. Ok.

How: Bottle 22oz, consumed some 7 months after the beer release.
The look: Dark mahogany body with ruby highlights topped by a persistent small tan head.
In long: Nose is intensely coffee but here it is not roasted coffee beans, the coffee character of the aroma is very much like the smell of a coffeemaker in action. There is also some lactic elements in the aroma when the beer warms up. In mouth the beer has a slightly slimy texture with a medium quantity of hard little bubbles. Taste is not your usual coffee black beer. It is more nutty than roasted, there is a strong lactic-milk-cream flavor, a coffee flavor that ios really like an old cup of black coffee. Like some kind of very nutty black coffee with extra-extra-extra-cream with. A bit sweet and earthy too. A bit odd, not bad but didn’t win me over. Another decent beer from Harpoon, they rarely make a bad beer, but a great beer from this brewery is as unlikely as J.K. Rowling writing a much awaited sequel called Harry Potter And House Of Representatives.
Bomber that was aged too long by me. Drink by date was 03/13. That being said this was still ok. Malt with slight coffee in aroma. Taste was porter. A little thin on coffee flavor but decent stephenj007 (124) - Houston, Texas, USA - JAN 29, 2014
A nice, big bottle pour! Very minimal head was thin and bubbly.
Thin cola color and clarity, but still nicely dark and inviting.
Aroma was mostly mild...sweet, smoky malts, chocolate melting in a double boiler, weak coffee.
Taste was not impressive for this style. Sweet accents with some coffee acidity and a hint of bitter hops.
Finish tended to be a bit overt with chocolate and some more weak coffee.
Seemed to be somewhat sticky at the end.
Not impressed with this coffee porter, was certainly hoping for more in yo face body and smoke.

22oz bottle (enjoy by 03/15/13) from The Wine Shoppe in Brick. Pours a thin dark brown color with a finger of foamy tan head. Aroma of cheap instant coffee, roasted malt, and a hint of cocoa powder. Taste of sweet chocolate, faint cheap bitter coffee, burnt toast, and caramel. TBone (18223) - Pori, FINLAND - NOV 18, 2013

Dark brown color, steady creamy beige head. Coffee and sweet vanilla in the nose. Medium-bodied. Coffeish, cocoa, cream flavor. Vanilla. Very tasty but has quite watery palate.
22oz bottle while visiting Albany. Black pour with a nice tan head and plenty of lacing. Good aroma - coffee, chocolate, a touch of ash, milk chocolate. Better flavor, good balance of coffee and chocolate sweetness, some bready malts and caramel help out. Tasty.
