Deep, muddy brown color with minimal head. Light hop aroma, I detect blueberry pancakes. Rich, thick body, on the heavy side, with a syrup feel at times, very malty, raisins and hints of chocolate.I think this has probably mellowed a bit from aging. Hides the alcohol well. Fruitier than the average barleywine, probably due to the wheat. Pretty solid overall.
Copper color, clear.
Full body, silky, intense flavor, very hot, long pslate.
Very sweet, hint of bitterness.
Syrupy, alcoholic, raisiny.
Excellent but monochromatic.

Pours dark brown where only faint light passes. Good starting beige head that settles to a single layer of bubbles but leaves nice stringy and streaky lace.
Lots of molasses and maple syrup sweetness to the nose. Light alcohol.
Darker malt flavors than the smell suggests. There’s some burnt toast taste to counteract the mild sweetness. Nice bitterness in the swallow. I don’t taste any wheat, though. Not a thick beer, it has a decent body. EvanFriend (610) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 4, 2014

Pours a dark brown with a confluent, skeletal surface etch of light brown foam. Smells of candied dates, some belgian sugar, some hints of toasted malts, a bit of sweet malt, some cocoa powder and a little tawny character - nice. Tastes sweet with toasted brown sugar, graham, some candied yams and plums. Tea, rice and and a little bit of malt extract syrup. Yummy beer. A bit like a simple syrup, low carb and a forgettable finish. I don’t know that this really fits the wheatwine category, but I think this particular take on the beer to be fucking brilliant - I would even consider tossing a little bit of belgian yeast into this to give it a touch more depth.

Received back in October ’08 from MarkD... A huge round of applause goes out to Mark... I have been trying to score a bottle or two since I first started trading.... poured tonight into my New Belgium snifter.
1" head was sorta unimpressive... but it did leave quite a bit of lace and held a firm cap until the bottom of the glass... the brew is dark dark walnut brown.. verging on porter territory.. only reveals brown highlites when held to a light.
It’s amazing, but some hoppiness has survived the years.. sorta a grassy/menthol type with a bunch of dark fruit .. think cherries and mild plum.. pretty nice.... I have to remember to message Mark and ask if this has been refrigerated prior to ending up in my basement.
From the first sip, I am liking this one more than any wheatwine I’ve had lately... much less sweet and not cloying at all.. figgy maltiness.. with some chocolate essence.. mild caramel and toffee.. a little bit of spicy alcohol is present but adds to the overall package.. still very pleasing after all this time.. no oxidation at all.. very balanced.. the body is a firm medium with perfect carbonation.. a subtle smokey flavor emerges as it warms up.. again adds a nice layer of complexity... it really blossoms when it hits room temperature.
Really very nice.. and I am not getting any indication that this is heading down hill yet... Thanks a ton Mark.... This is one of my "White Whale" brews.. and it was worth the hunt... I know there wasn’t a "Moby Dick 2" but I may try to score another bottle or two to cellar and bring out at various tastings... Good stuff that should be shared.

22 oz. bottle (original ). Pours a clear brown color with a thin beige film. The aroma and flavor had big sweet caramel malts, hints of chocolate, ripe fruits, not much in the way of hops, a hint of wood. 12 oz bottle, 2011 vintage. Poura almost black light head good lacing suspended yeast. Aroma of chocolate roasted malts sweet esters raisin and some alcohol. Taste is sweet bitter finish. Chocolate good flavor complex thick mouthful. Has mellowed after 2 years of aging.

Bottle from February 2011. Beautiful blend of dark wheat with plum and raisin. Warming alcohol meshes with a smooth maple flavor. Personal opinion this like many higher alcohol beers present best at 55-60 degrees. A hint of banana esters and cocoa. On tap at the brewery in 2010. Poured a dark brown with a dark khaki/beige head. Aroma of caramel, pine, fruit, chocolate, and some wheat. Quite easy to drink for the abv; some booziness initially, but not too overpowering. Flavors were the same. Some nice complexity.
