100 Barrel Series. Session 21. Our authentic German hefeweizen yeast provides the banana and clove aroma for which this malty, warming wheat beer is known.

So, this beer has nearly no bubbles at all, so it doesn’t really look that inviting - slightly cloudy, dark, coppery in color. A malty aroma, with hints of spices I’m no so fond of the banana-essences I find in the flavor, either. It is malty, but it lacks the wheat qualtiy. Not sweet at all, and a very thin finish.

A pretty solid weizenbock. Tried is in 2007 when I visited the brewery. Lots of weizen yeast character, banana and cloves dominate. Kinda of a one-trick pony.

Great head to start but it dies to nearly nothing. Light ruby brown in color--clear. Strong banana aroma, alcohol behind that; no notable hop. The banana really comes through in the flavor. The traditional wheat tastes only show up at the swallow. The aftertaste is both brief and sour. Good body and relatively flat for the wheat style. I believe this closer to a dark wheat beer than a bock, but I like the effort to combine the two styles.

Taste and smell the sweet banana in this one. Pours amber with white head. Taste sweet good smooth palate. Overall great 1st Weizenbock.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a mostly clear dark amber that allows light to pass with a thin tan head that vaporized almost immediately and left no lace. Pleasant malty aroma. The flavor is malty with a touch of banana along with some mild oxidation. Very light bitterness at the finish. A bit prickly on the palate despite the fact that this beer doesn’t physically appear to be overcarbonated. I think this one is a bit past its prime.

GeneralGao (3614) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - DEC 19, 2009
Bottle from nearbeer. Poured a dark orange ruddy color. The head was off white and fizzled quickly into a thin ring. Smelled of light molasses and dark fruits. There were also whiffs of brown sugar and clove. Light to medium bodied and slightly sweet. Carbonation was on the higher end of the spectrum. Spices were prominent in the flavor with additional notes of toffee, brown sugar, and lemon. Too much bock and not enough weizen.

bottle shared by BBB63- Thanks Mike! pours copper with red highlights and a small beige head. notes of sweet caramel, banana, nuts, a bit of medicine and herbs. Silky and slightly sticky mouthfeel. Good beer!

Color is clear light red/amber and there is very little head. Aroma is toffee, cherry, and alcohol spice. Taste is rich creamy toffee with roast malt. Balance is nice between the yeast and roasty malt. Finish is smooth and has a slightly lingering roast taste.

Barrios (1243) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - SEP 24, 2009
Pours a lasting ring of beige head with an amber-copper body. Aromas of biscuit, caramel, floral, roasted. Flavor is caramel, bread, floral.

ScottyP (425) - Brentwood, Tennessee, USA - SEP 24, 2009
Pours a deep clear copper with fizzy head. Aroma of malts, banana, clove, candy sugar. Similar taste with a sweet and spicy bite at the end.

Butters (4062) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - SEP 24, 2009
Bottle shared with the barrios, scottyp, curly. Pours a clear dark chestnut with thin ring of offwhite head. Nose is pleasant plum, vanilla, and a hint of spicy clove and alcohol. Flavor is massive banana, dark wheat, and vanilla. Finally not dissappointed by one of these barrel series.
