pours a beautiful crystal clear reddish amber with a foamy beige head. Aroma is sweet, caramel malt. Flavoe is weak. There is a very slight spice thing at the finish, but it is so watery and weak. WEAK!!!!!!! Terrible. I keep trying Harpoon beers wanting to like them, but far more times than not, I am completely let down. This is like a fraternal twin to Bud Am Ale, which sucks. zach8270 (4022) - Henrietta, New York, USA - SEP 12, 2009
(bottle - 22 oz) Dark amber in color with a fluffy off-white head. Aroma is very sweet and malty with a bit of dry grain to it. Flavor is roasty and caramelly at the beginning with a very dry and bready middle. Finishes dry and malty with a slightly spicy and bitter aftertaste. Late June/Early July 2008: Harpoon Old Rusty’s Red Rye Ale (100 Barrel Series, Session 23) is golden amber in color with a foamy, semi-lasting beige-colored head and tons of carbonation. It smells lightly caramelly and grainy. The flavor has toasted bread, hints of the spicy and fruity rye, and some caramel malt. Is is spicier toward the end and it has a dry rye finish. This medium-bodied beer is a touch syprupy and fairly good overall.
22 fl. oz. bottle (alc/vol 6.5%; IBU 38; OG 15.8). Rating #99 for this beer.
2009-07-19. Lightly hasy dark aber body with a nice foamy beige head. (3+) Lightly hoppy aroma over mild malt base. (6+) Flavour has a pleasant modest hoppy bitterness throughout, light resin linver with very light citrus notes. Mild notes of rye malt, but I may just be looking for them. Smooth average palate. Bomber - Pours a slightly hazy reddish amber in color with a small, bubbly off-white head. Aroma is weak of bready yeast, spicy hops and some grainy malts. Flavor is medium hoppy and slightly sweet to finish. Has a slightly metallic aftertaste that detracts from the overall experience. Palate is too watery. OK, not that great... Bottle. Session 23. Brown amber with a one finger off-white head. Hoppy nose with a a background that is both sweet and spicy. Taste is surprisingly thin. Spicy and a bit watery with a metalic finish but that’s really it. A disappointment.
