COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Harpoon 100 Barrel Series Ginger Wheat Ale is an ode to brewer Scott Shirleys favorite spice, ginger. The earthy, warming flavor of this golden-hued ale is derived from fresh ginger. Honey from a local New Hampshire farm yields a slight sweetness to balance the ginger spiciness. A small addition of Apollo hops adds floral notes to the aroma, while a hint of lemon adds acidity and rounds out the ginger flavor. Warm up your chilly winter nights with this ginger spiced beer.

February 19, 2010 tasting with blankboy, garthicus, gregclow, jerc & mabel. My 22oz bottle. Hazy gold pour with an average, bog-standard white bottle head. Sharp aroma, fresh ginger and hand soap (??! - 6-). The taste is lovely - fresh ginger, a welcome dearth of Jergens - maybe a little sweet, but simple and refreshing. Average body, strong carbonation (arent all ginger beers big on the fizzy?), slightly sticky in the finish. Didnt like the aroma much, but overall a solid ginger beer.

650 ml bottle. Pours golden with a slim head. The nose has ginger powder or preserved ginger, almost ginger ale if that doesnt sound too obvious. The taste has more tangy ginger, this time more of the fresh stuff. The palate is medium bodied with a long tight texture and a long tangyu finish. Overall, great balance though slightly missing the wheat aspect.

Pours pale with a white head. Smells of pronounced ginger. Taste yields lots of ginger bitterness with a touch of wheat. A good concept, but this one tastes too much like ginger ale and not enough like beer.

Yellow with a white head. Aroma is heavy on the ginger with some wheat notes. Flavor is also heavy on the ginger, with a few other assorted herbs and some wheat notes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

(22oz bomber) clear bright gold, ring of white bubbles. Nose of candied ginger, wheat, lemon, peppercorn. Taste of heavy ginger, wheat, spicy, light to medium body, oily, decent beer.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Chevy Chase, 3/9/10

Aroma: Aroma is overpoweringly ginger, with some other spices and some lemon
Appearance: Pours a clear golden-orange color with a thin, fizzy white head
Flavor: Flavor is rather sweet, lots of ginger and some lemongrass
Palate: This one is fairly light, with a tingly mouthfeel, and a fizzy carbonation
Overall Impression: This one is fairly one-dimensional, most likely intentionally so. Its pretty flavorful for what it is, tons of ginger and quite sweet. Maybe a little too sweet for my taste, and I cant imagine drinking this one if you dislike ginger. It left me wanting some variety of Asian food...

**Just submitted a photo for this one as well, as it was missing one.

Super hazy golden coloured body with a very thin, one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of ginger (of course), malt, wheat, coriander seed and a bit of lemons - but the ginger is potent and strong. Medium-bodied; Super strong ginger flavour with a good wheat and yeast flavour soon afterwards with a deep, pungent spice note at the end. Aftertaste is strong and bitter with the ginger and a bit of sweetness coming through. Overall, a strong and potent wheat with a ton of ginger flavours - nice, but perhaps a bit too potent. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 09-June-2012 for US$6.50 sampled at home in Washington on 30-July-2012.

Pours a slightly hazed gold into a shaker. Bright white micro head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Immediate ginger aromas with some hidden wheat. Crisp ginger from front to back with some wheat fullness into a lasting ginger burn. Very nice.

Draft at Harpoon Tasting Room. Pale golden yellow, foamy head. Big ea and herbal aroma, huge ginger tea over light wheat body. Good mild bodied beer. Not my favorite flavors for such a beverage but they did taste good.
