COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Harpoon 100 Barrel Series Ginger Wheat Ale is an ode to brewer Scott Shirleys favorite spice, ginger. The earthy, warming flavor of this golden-hued ale is derived from fresh ginger. Honey from a local New Hampshire farm yields a slight sweetness to balance the ginger spiciness. A small addition of Apollo hops adds floral notes to the aroma, while a hint of lemon adds acidity and rounds out the ginger flavor. Warm up your chilly winter nights with this ginger spiced beer.

Fantastic! I love ginger - the spice is subtle and the beer is surprisingly refreshing, not sticky, not sweet. They hit a home run with this one.

Pours clear golden-orange with a bubbly white head. Ginger and wheat aroma. Taste is freshly-grated ginger over malty wheat and lemon zest. Nice balance of flavors.

This pours hazy and golden with about a fingers worth of foam and then falls off to some nice lace. It smells like ginger. I love it already. Nose is light malt and light citrus wheat and ginger. As it warms some banana and lemon. Its pretty subtle. The taste is awesome with a full wheat base against the spicy ginger and the gentle hops. Even had a bit of toasted bread in the finish. Its creative and not the usual fare. Its slightly sweet and mouthfeel is soft and pleasant with a bit of citrus to wash it down. No alcohol on the palate it finishes simple and pale. Wheat is a refreshing beer and with the ginger its both warming and crisp. Sensational and very original. I paired this with striped bass.

16 ounce pint - $6.75 at Taco Mac in Suwanee, Georgia. Appearance: Hazed, burnished gold body with a very thin, white head. Smell: Well, it certainly has a pungent ginger aroma. There are other notes of other what-have-yous in the nose, but its hard to get around the fragrant ginger. Taste: Slight initial taste of malted wheat then a bold zip of ginger snaps you to attention. Fairly sweet. Particularly lemony, but, now I see lemon juice was used in the brewing process, so there ya go. Sweet ginger on the finish with a lingering ginger burn on the tongue. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-light carbonation. Drinkability: Why, its like a Vernors Ginger Ale with alcohol! Not that thats a bad thing, mind you. Seems like this would be well suited to Asian cuisine.

Thanks to HogTownHarry for sharing this. Appearance: Slightly cloudy orange, clean white head. Aroma: Like a ginger chew, somewhat soapy, Harry mentioned a urinal cake and I cant disagree, very sweet ginger. Flavour: Caramel, ginger, very zingy, quite a soapy finish, weird but good.

(Sample Date: 4/12/2010 Source:Butters) Ginger aroma with a light graininess. Clear golden with small head. Spicy ginger flavor with some spruce or juniper berry notes. Quite peppery. Finish medium but dries quickly with a lot of peppery spiciness. Tasty.
