The Harpoon 100 Barrel Series Ginger Wheat Ale is an ode to brewer Scott Shirley’s favorite spice, ginger. The earthy, warming flavor of this golden-hued ale is derived from fresh ginger. Honey from a local New Hampshire farm yields a slight sweetness to balance the ginger spiciness. A small addition of Apollo hops adds floral notes to the aroma, while a hint of lemon adds acidity and rounds out the ginger flavor. Warm up your chilly winter nights with this ginger spiced beer.

Bottle from the DWG Majestic. Very light pour with a big white head. Aroma is ginger and wheat. Shocking. Taste is astringent, heavy ginger, and a little lemon, and pepper.

TXBadger (2811) - Dallas, Texas, USA - JUN 3, 2014
Pours a cloudy golden color with white head. Spice, ginger, citrus, and some floral notes on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with a nice ginger note.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a really clear golden yellow colored body leaving a one finger white foamy and fizzy head that quickly dies. The body is too hazy for any carbonation to be seen rising. Lacing is ringy and slightly spotty underneath the rings that form. The smell had wheat with some lemon juice and ginger more so in the background. The taste had a powerful ginger with the lemon juice and wheat more subdued. The palate had a light to medium body with some harsh prickly bitterness hitting the tongue hard, very powerful, probably the ginger. It leaves a very dry afteraste and a bitter finish. It is moderately drinkable. Overall, not bad, different. I’m not sure if I would come back to this, perhaps to try it fresh.

Ginger lends earthy quality to the subtle flavor of the wheat. Lots of ginger in the nose. Well-balanced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Moderate head; slight amounts of lace. Chill haze present on an otherwise straw-gold color. Definitive ginger in the nose and very little else. Light on the wheat, although its mildly present on the initial sip. The rest of the story is the ginger. Lightly biting, really quite smooth for a ginger ale. The aftertaste is modest but long lasting. The body is neutral, but good. This is an easy-to-drink, but unusual beer.

On tap. Pours a hazy golden color with a large white head. Aroma is predominantly fresh ginger, with some sweet fruit notes. The ginger is very dominating at first in the taste, but afterward slight hints of citrus came through.

Mora2000 (6158) - McKinney, Texas, USA - MAY 8, 2013
Yellow with a white head. Aroma is heavy on the ginger with some wheat notes. Flavor is also heavy on the ginger, with a few other assorted herbs and some wheat notes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

FROTHINGSLOSH (8291) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 15, 2013
Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy apricot color with a medium sized soapy white head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was wheat, ginger and dryish clove. The flavor was wheat, clove, nutmeg, ginger powder and pepper. Medium length dry ginger powder and nutmeg finish. Medium body. Ok.

This pours hazy and golden with about a finger’s worth of foam and then falls off to some nice lace. It smells like ginger. I love it already. Nose is light malt and light citrus wheat and ginger. As it warms some banana and lemon. It’s pretty subtle. The taste is awesome with a full wheat base against the spicy ginger and the gentle hops. Even had a bit of toasted bread in the finish. It’s creative and not the usual fare. It’s slightly sweet and mouthfeel is soft and pleasant with a bit of citrus to wash it down. No alcohol on the palate it finishes simple and pale. Wheat is a refreshing beer and with the ginger it’s both warming and crisp. Sensational and very original. I paired this with striped bass.

A bit old now so not best condition. Pours orange with little head or lacing. Nose is light ginger and yeast. Aromas same but with touch of honey and a slight grassy hop bitterness. Light body with lively carbonation.
