A robust flavored ale with notes of spicy sweet pine from locally gathered spruce tips, balanced by roasty caramel malt and a hint of Chinook hops. About Vermont Spruce Tip Ale This hearty ale is a showcase for a traditional yet seldom used brewing ingredient: spruce tips. Harvested at their tender, ripe, bright green peak in Downer State Forest, Vermont, these spruce tips impart citrus, pine, spice, herbal and earthy notes. A host of malts, a hint of roasted barley and generous use of Chinook hops complement the unique spruce flavor.

Subtle wood and unripe strawberries. Clear copper, thin yellow head. Fair amount of wood, but not much of anything else. A bit fizzy. Overall, it lacks intensity but is fairly enjoyable.

Draft. Pours amber with an off white head. Sweeter malts, with light piney hop bitterness and some extra piney notes as if it was aged on christmas trees. Good stuff.

Color was a wonderful red hue. Aroma is a mix of spruce and caramel malt. Taste is initially slightly sweet caramel malt, followed up by spruce and herbal hoppiness. Decently bitter.. the first few sips I enjoyed the novelty but it wore off: I ended up pouring out the last third (which was more because we had more beers to taste and time was short, rather than a bad beer.) I wouldnt buy again, unless the mood was right: (think Christmas tree decorating day and a foot of snow outside).

From a bottle poured a brown color with a small amount of head. Light spicy malty flavor with a lingering off putting pine finish.

Bottle. Poured orange with a fizzy, quick off-white head. Aromas of malt, dark fruit, and faint pine. Initial flavor of sweet fruits. As warmed, roasted malt, light spice, and a hop background. Medium body, light bitter, yet slightly sweet.

22oz bottle-pours amber with a dissipating white head. Aroma is sweet light/medium malt-caramel, berry, resin. Taste is pine hops, sweet light/medium malt-caramel. Easy, very quaffable.

Bottle from Total Wine. Pours reddish amber with minimal off-white head. Aroma of biscuit and subtle herbal notes. Flavors include more biscuit, highly metallic hops and chewy, bready malts. Medium carbonation and medium body. Not as complex as I anticipated. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22 oz bottle. Pours clear amber with reddish highlights. A gentle pour netted a one finger creamy off white head which receded slowly leaving only marginal lace. Aroma is pine resin and caramel malt with a touch of spruce. Flavor is caramel malt and biscuit with a light hop presence. Also, a light taste of the spruce tips. Hops and spruce tips could have been a bit stronger. Average palate with a dry finish. Spruce tips make themselves known in the aftertaste.

Amber in color, with a white head that quickly dissapates. No lacing on the glass. Aroma of carmel, malts and a slight scent of pine. Taste is rather ho hum, bread and malt being at the front with some spice towards the back. OK beer. Probably would not purchase again.
